ATHENS, Ga. - The Ole Miss women's golf team improved their overall team score all three rounds to finish the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in 13th place with a 325-312-306--943.
Threatening winds and rains held off just long enough to get in the final round Sunday at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The Lady Bulldogs of Georgia took the team title with an overall 892, with LSU, Auburn, Tulane and Tennessee rounding out the top five out of the 18-team tournament field.
Ole Miss improved from 17th to 15th to 13th over the weekend, including a 13-stroke improvement from the first to second rounds.
Senior Nikki Hadd led the Lady Rebels as she surged to a 20th-place tie after shooting a two-over 74 on Sunday, with two-stroke improvements each day of the tourney (78-76-74--228). This marks her fifth top-20 finish this season, tied for the team-lead with sophomore Katie Davidson.
Davidson shot rounds of 75 and 76 Saturday and Sunday to give her a 49th-place tie and a 235 for the weekend. Other scores for the Lady Rebels included junior Sarah Kate Cousart's 81-81-78--240, freshman Katherine Jones' 89-80-78--247 and junior Laura Evans' 82-83-85--250.
This is the last tune-up tournament for several SEC teams, including Ole Miss, before the SEC Championships. Ten of the 12 SEC members were here for the Liz Murphey.
Ole Miss will now prepare to host this year's SEC Championships, which will be held at the Tunica National Golf Course April 15-17 in Tunica, Miss.
