OLE MISS POSTGAME NOTES

SERIES INFORMATION

  • This game marked the 94th meeting all-time between Ole Miss and LSU dating back to 1894. LSU is Ole Miss' second-most played opponent besides Mississippi State, whom the Rebels will play for the 102nd time on Nov. 26 in Starkville.
  • LSU now leads the series 53-37-4.
  • LSU has now won four straight and five of the last six meetings.

REBEL NOTEBOOK

  • Tonight's attendance was 59,543.
  • The Rebels have appeared on TV six times this year. The Memphis game was televised by ESPN, the Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Auburn games were carried by JP and the Alabama match-up was on CBS.
  • Tonight's game marked the fourth ranked opponent the Rebels have faced this season. Tennessee was ranked No. 9/10, Alabama was No. 6/7 and Auburn was No. 19.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

  • The offense allowed its first safety since the Nov. 2, 2002 game versus Auburn at home. That safety occurred in the third quarter of the game.
  • Senior wide receiver Mike Espy has recorded a catch in 24 consecutive games. The Madison, Miss., native has recorded a catch in 43-of-47 career games played.
  • With his start against LSU, senior OL Tre' Stallings extended his stretch of consecutive starts to 47, which is the third longest active streak in the SEC and tied for the fifth-longest in the nation. If he starts against Mississippi State, Stallings would tie the school record for consecutive starts of 48, held by Marcus Johnson (2001-04).
  • The seven net yards on the ground was Ole Miss' least since rushing for two yards against Alabama in 2002.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

  • Junior DB Charles Clark recorded his first career interception, picking off LSU QB JaMarcus Russell in the second quarter.
  • Senior DE Jayme Mitchell notched his first career fumble recovery in the second quarter.
  • With his 15 tackles, junior LB Patrick Willis tied his career-high for total tackles and also tied a career-best with 10 solo tackles. He now has three games with at least 15 tackles and five career games with at least 10 solo tackles.
  • The Chuck Bednarik Award semifinalist now has 114 tackles for the season, the most since Eric Oliver had 129 in 2002.
  • Willis has recorded double digit tackles in seven of his eight complete games played.
  • Senior LB Kelvin Robinson registered a career-high 12 total tackles.

SPECIALTY NOTES

  • Sophomore Matt Hinkle converted on a PAT and is now 4-of-4 on PATs this season.

LSU POSTGAME NOTES

TEAM NOTES
  • LSU's game captains are 16 Craig Steltz, 41 Chris Jackson, 46 Cameron Vaughn and 64 Rudy Niswanger.
  • Ole Miss won the toss and deferred to the second half. LSU received the opening kickoff.
  • Tigers extending their consecutive starts' streak today were: OT Andrew Whitworth (49), FS LaRon Landry (30), DT Kyle Williams (30) and LB Cameron Vaughn (22).
  • LSU recorded a team safety with 5:27 left in the first quarter. It is the second safety recorded by the Tigers this season and the fourth time the LSU defense has scored this season. (The interception return against Tennessee and a safety and fumble return against Vanderbilt).
  • LSU's team safety is the first since the Georgia punter ran out of the end zone in the 2003 SEC Championship game.
  • LSU has outscored its opponents 53-6 in the first quarter since the game at Vanderbilt on Oct. 8. LSU has outscored its opponents 70-10 in the first quarter for the season and has allowed only one first-quarter touchdown (at Mississippi State).
  • LSU intercepted a pass (Jessie Daniels in the second quarter) for the first time since the North Texas game back on Oct. 29
  • LSU shut out Ole Miss in the first half, marking the second time this season the Tigers have blanked a conference opponent in the opening two quarters (Tennessee on Sept. 25). Overall, it was the third time LSU shutout an opponent in the first half (Appalachian State on Nov. 5).
  • LSU held Ole Miss to 7 rushing yards, marking the fewest yards allowed since holding South Carolina to zero yards in 2003.
  • LSU's eight straight victories marks the longest streak since winning eight straight to finish the 2003 season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • OT Andrew Whitworth broke LSU's career record for starts, starting his 49th straight game. Her passed Jerel Myers and Rodney Reed who each started 48 games.
  • With a tackle in the first quarter, both DT Kyle Williams and FS LaRon Landry extended their tackles in consecutive games streak. They each have now made a tackle in 36 straight games.
  • WR Craig Davis pulled in a 32-yard reception with 2:40 left in the first quarter to extend his consecutive games with a reception streak to 20 (games in which he has played).
  • Davis pulled down his first touchdown of the season and second of his career on a 3-yard pass from Russell with 14:50 left in the second quarter.
  • RS Skyler Green moved over 1,000 career punt return yards on his second return of the game. He needed 14 yards to reach the milestone entering the game.
  • QB JaMarcus Russell tossed his 13th ad 14th touchdowns of the season and 22nd and 23rd of his career on a 3-yard lob to WR Craig Davis in the second quarter and the 20-yard pass to Early Doucet in the third quarter.
  • Russell has now thrown at least one touchdown in eight straight games.
  • With his two touchdown passes tonight, Russell moved into a tie for ninth place for touchdown passes in a single season at LSU with 14. He is tied with Bert Jones (14 in 1976).
  • Joseph Addai scored his eighth rushing touchdown of the season and 17th of his career on a 1-yard run with 9:42 left in the second quarter.
  • SS Jessie Daniels intercepted a pass with 0:38 left in second quarter. The pick was his first of the season and fourth of his career.
  • WR Early Doucet pulled in his fifth touchdown of the season and seventh of his career on a 20-yard pass from JaMarcus Russell with 8:36 left in the third quarter.
  • PK Chris Jackson kicked a 48-yard field goal with 4:04 left in the third quarter, marking his season long. He had hit a 44-yarder against Auburn.
  • Jackson kicked his 23rd field goal of his career in the third quarter. He remains in seventh-place on LSU's career field goals made list. He is now 10 away from moving into a sixth-place tie.
  • 13 of Jackson's 23 field goals have been from 40-yard or more, including his 48-yarder tonight.
  • DB Jonathan Zenon's interception late in the third quarter was the first of his career.
  • RB Justin Vincent scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the season and 16th of his career on a one-yard run with 14:53 left in the fourth quarter.
  • WR Bennie Brazell pulled down his second touchdown of the season and his career with a career-long 55-yard reception early in the fourth quarter.
  • QB Matt Flynn tossed his fourth touchdown of the season on a 55-yard strike to WR Bennie Brazell in the fourth quarter. Flynn has attempted 12 passes with eight completions and four touchdowns this season.
  • Flynn completed nine straight completions (7-7 against Appalachian State and his first two in tonight's game).
