CLEMMONS, N.C. - Laura Evans continued to pace the Ole Miss women's golf team, firing a 1-over-par score of 72 in the second round, but the improved play in the second round didn't improve the standings as the Lady Rebels held onto 20th in the standings with a score of 322-302-624 at the NCAA East Regional.
Duke continued to lead the event with a score of 288-286-573, while North Carolina's Meaghan Francella took the overall lead with a score of 69-69-138.
"We came out focused and played much better golf today," said head coach Meghan Bolger. "We made up some ground, but we have a lot more to do to move up in the standings. This team needs to come out focused again tomorrow and finish things off as best we can."
Evans improved her standing on the leader board in the second day of action with her steady play. The freshman led the squad for the second day and moved up to a tie for 13th with a score of 74-72-146.
"Laura has been playing tremendous golf for us," Bolger said. "The fact that a freshman has been able to come in and play the rounds of golf she has played speaks volumes about her potential for us in the future."
Senior Bernadette Luse finished second on the squad, improving on her first round score to move up to a tie for 84th with a score of 82-76-158, while sophomore Nikki Hadd also improved her scoring from the first round. Hadd fired an 84-76-160 in the two-day event to move into a tie for 92nd.
Kerrie Davis finished the second day in a tie for 96th with a score of 82-80-162, while freshman Sarah Kate Cousart rounded out the squad for Ole Miss, firing a 92-78-170 to tie for 103rd.
The third and final round of competition will begin at 7:30 a.m. EST on Sunday.
