OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head football coach David Cutcliffe announced Saturday that he is not a candidate for the head coaching position at the University of Kentucky.

Cutcliffe met with his longtime friend, Kentucky Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart, Friday in what he called "a friendly exchange" about the Kentucky program, which was initiated by Barnhart.

"I am happy to be at The University of Mississippi and have not entertained any thoughts of leaving," Cutcliffe said. "My family is extremely happy to be a part of the Oxford and Ole Miss community. We are committed to strive for excellence in every phase of our program, and I am appreciative of the support we have received since we became a part of Ole Miss."

Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone said Kentucky's interest in Cutcliffe "reflects the positive trend that our football program has achieved over the last four years. The future of our football program is in great hands under Coach Cutcliffe's leadership.

"Coach Cutcliffe's vision for the success of Ole Miss football is both exciting and attainable. He has stated often that Ole Miss is his home. It is a tribute to David and our football program that other schools have noticed the job being done here."
