TEXAS TECH POSTGAME NOTES
The Tradition Continues
Texas Tech announced the name of the 13th masked rider in school history as "Midnight Rider" in a pregame ceremony. This year's rider is Jessica Melvin.
Getting Started
? Texas Tech won the opening coin toss for the first time this season and elected to receive the ball. Texas Tech scored a field goal on the opening drive (a 40-yard FG from Robert Treece).
? Two Red Raiders made their first career starts today: Armon Dorrough (Wide Receiver) and Adell Duckett (Right End).

That's A Long Way
Senior punter Clinton Greathouse punted the ball 67 yards in the second quarter to set a new career mark. His previous career high was a 57-yard punt at Oklahoma in 2000.
Super Kingsbury
Senior Quarterback Kliff Kingsbury became the Big 12's all-time leading passer surpassing Texas' Major Appelwhite. Kingsbury, who became the Texas Tech school record holder last week, has a total of 8932 passing yards in his Red Raider career.
Kingsbury also surpassed Major Applewhite on the Big 12 career total offense list as he now totals 8331 yards of total offense.
He's Quick At The Draw
Junior Wes Welker returned a punt for a touchdown in the third quarter to give him his first punt return for a touchdown this season. Welker now has four punt returns for touchdowns in his Texas Tech career.
A Lot Of Firsts For Duckett
Sophomore Adell Duckett had a pretty productive day against Mississippi. Duckett, who was making his first career start at defensive end, notched his first career interception and returned it 21 yards for his first career touchdown.
Other Notables
? Junior receiver Mickey Peters grabbed his second touchdown pass of the season to give Tech a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. The touchdown was the fourth of his career. Peters also grabbed a two-point conversion pass with 5:32 remaining in the second quarter after an Adell Duckett interception return giving Texas Tech a 21-7 lead.
? Senior placekicker Robert Treece picked up a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter to give him a new career-high.
? The Texas Tech defense allowed just four rushing yards in the first half on 16 carries.
? Texas Tech has an all-time record of 57-18-3 in home season openers.
Super Kingsbury
? Kiliff Kingsbury picked up just his fourth career rushing touchdown in the second quarter when he took the ball in on a quarterback sneak from the 1-yard line.

? Set a new Ole Miss record for pass attempts with 57, while completing 34, which is three short of the all-time school record. The previous Rebel high for pass attempts was 56 by Archie Manning vs. Southern Miss in 1970.
? Established a new career best for passing yards with 374, which is the fourth-highest total in school history and most since John Darnell's 412 yards vs. Arkansas State in 1989.
? Registered his first 300-yard passing game of the year and third of his career, tying Archie Manning and Romaro Miller as the only Rebel passers with three 300-yard passing games. He moved alone into first place on the Ole Miss career list for 250-yard passing games with nine, and alone into second for career 200-yard efforts with 12.
? Extended his streak to 15 straight games - a school record - with at least one TD pass when he connected with Chris Collins fro m11 yards in the second quarter to narrow the Texas Tech lead to 10-7.
? With 34 completions today, Manning passed Stewart Patridge and Josh Nelson for sixth place on the school's career list for completions with 340. Eli Manning is 62 completions shy of tying father Archie Manning for fifth place at 402.
? Manning also moved past Patridge, Nelson and Russ Shows for sixth place on the school's career list for passing yards. Manning now has 3,858 passing yards, 895 yards shy of tying Archie Manning for fifth place with 4,753.
TEAM NOTES
? Today's loss ended Ole Miss' regular-season win streak over non-conference opponents at 24 games. The Rebels had last lost a regular-season non-conference game against Memphis, 17-16, on Nov. 5, 1994 in Oxford.
? Head Coach David Cutcliffe suffered his first regular-season non-conference loss with the Rebels. Cutcliffe is now 11-1 in his career at Ole Miss versus non-SEC teams in the regular season and 13-2 including bowl games.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
? Sophomore WR Bill Flowers established a new career high for receptions with eight. His previous high for catches was seven last year versus Arkansas.
? Junior C Justin Sawyer made his first career start in place of Ben Claxton, who sprained his knee in the first half of the Memphis game. Claxton did play most of the game against the Red Raiders.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
? Senior LB Eddie Strong played in his first game of 2002, after spraining his ankle in an Aug. 17 practice.
? Junior DL Josh Cooper's fumble-forcing sack in the third quarter marked the first sack of his career.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
? Sophomore Wesley Bryan kicked the first two punts of his Ole Miss career for an average of 44.0 ypp. Starter Cody Ridgeway injured his shoulder in the first half.
? The Rebels surrendered their first punt return for a touchdown since the 2001 LSU game, when Domanick Davis had a 71-yard return for a score.
