Oxford, Miss. - Ole Miss added another member to its family recently as Katherine Mowat was named as the assistant women's golf coach for the Lady Rebels. Mowat joins Megan Bolger as a part of the new coaching staff for the upcoming season.
"We are excited to have Katherine join our program," Ole Miss head coach Megan Bolger said. "She is an extremely talented player and is a wonderful hire. It's been a blessing having her here already. We can't wait to get started with this program."
Mowat came to Ole Miss after completing a career at the University of Louisville. She transferred to Louisville after competing for two years in the Big XII at the University of Iowa. At Louisville, Mowat claimed the Conference USA individual championship for the 2000 season and helped lead her team to the NCAA Regional. Mowat also earned Most Valuable Player honors for the 1999-2000 and 2000-001 seasons while scoring the lowest average on the team for both seasons.
"I am excited because this is an incredible opportunity to come coach at Ole Miss," Mowat said. "I'm excited to be able to work on the other side of the ball in collegiate golf. I know what many of these players are going through, having just finished playing myself. I am ready to get in there and help them learn about golf and have the best experience they can as a student-athlete."
Mowat, who competed against Bolger as an undergraduate while Bolger was at Tulane, joins her former competitor at Ole Miss. Bolger was hired as an assistant to Purdom last season before taking over the program when Purdom resigned on July 31, 2001, after 10 years of leading the Lady Rebel program.
Ole Miss will compete in its first tournament of the season September 17-18, in Nashville, Tenn., at the Mason Rudolph Invitational.
