OXFORD, Miss. - The University of Mississippi announced Thursday that football defensive coordinator Don Lindsey would not return for the 2002 season.
"The search for a new defensive coordinator will begin immediately," said head coach David Cutcliffe. "We will not be working under a specific timetable as we search Coach Lindsey's replacement."
Lindsey came to Ole Miss last January after spending the 2000 and 2001 seasons as defensive coordinator with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League. His collegiate coaching career began at Alabama, and he later coached at Montana State, Washington State, Arkansas, Southern California, Georgia Tech, Missouri, and Hawaii. He also coached with the Memphis Mad Dogs of the CFL.
Ole Miss finished the 2001 season with a 7-4 record, which included a 35-24 victory over Southeastern Conference champ LSU in Baton Rouge.
Spring football at Ole Miss is scheduled to begin March 1 with the annual Red-Blue game to be played at 5:30 on Saturday, April 6.
