Lady Rebel Golf Team Claims USF/Beacon Woods Invitational Title

TAMPA, Fla. - The Ole Miss women's golf team finished out strong to claim the title at the USF/Beacon Woods Invitational on Sunday behind the solid play of sophomore Teesha Ash. Ash shot par for the day to propel her team to the title.

"I'm lost for words," said Ole Miss head coach Meghan Bolger. "The girls played with their hearts and it paid off for us. It was exciting to see everyone work so hard and play so well. It was simply amazing to watch."

The Lady Rebels held a tie for first place with Louisville after the second round of competition, but the play of Ash helped push the team into the top spot. Ash shot a 74-73-70-217 for the three day tournament, breaking par by two strokes on Sunday.

Two other Lady Rebels hit par or broke par on the final day of play. Juniors Kerrie Davis and Lori Cate joined Ash in the feat, setting a record for Ole Miss.Davis notched a 3 day 75-82-71-228 while Cate turned in a three-day performance of 78-79-72-229.

The three day performance of 286 is a new low for the Lady Rebel team. Prior to this tournament the low was a score of 287 for a three day tournament.

All five players for Ole Miss finished in the top 20 in individual competition with Ash taking the third place finish and senior Elizabeth Hoffman taking a tie for the sixth place position. Junior Bernadette Luse finished in a tie for 11th.
