Rebels Sign Two From Mississippi Community College Ranks

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe announced Thursday the signing of Chris Knight of Hinds Community College and Clifton Collins of Southwest Community College to football scholarships. Both are expected to enroll at Ole Miss in January.

Knight, a 5-10 1/2, 170 pound back from Pearl, Miss., earned two letters while playing at Hinds, and was a first team All-State selection as a sophomore after being an honorable mention pick as a freshman. During his two years at Hinds, Knight was credited with 118 tackles, broke up 35 passes, and had eight pass interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.

Knight also lettered in track at Hinds, earning All-America honors his freshman season.

While playing at Pearl High School, Knight earned defensive back Most Valuable Player honors, was an All-Metro pick, and made All-Region. During his three years of high school football, he had 83 pass receptions for 1,300 yards and 19 touchdowns, plus 14 pass interceptions. Knight caught 22 passes for 500 yards and eight touchdowns, while intercepting six passes, during his senior season.

Collins, a 6-2, 203 pound back from Liberty, Miss., earned two letters while playing at Southwest. After playing his freshman year as a quarterback and wide receiver, Collins moved to the secondary for his sophomore season and responded with 40 tackles, one pass interception, and recovered two fumbles, including one for a touchdown.

He earned three letters as a quarterback in high school, helping Amite County win the District 3A championship his senior year. Collins also excelled in track at Amite County as a member of the state championship 1600 meter relay team and 4x200 meter team which set the state record.

Collins is the brother of Ole Miss freshman wide receiver Chris Collins.
