OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women's tennis team (16-5, 8-4) is ranked No. 7 in the fourth edition of the spring Rolex Collegiate Rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Lady Rebels are coming off a disappointing 5-1 loss to Arkansas at the SEC Tournament. That loss is not reflected in this poll. Ole Miss has been ranked in the top 10 in every poll dating back to last year.
Stanford remained at No. 1, followed by Florida, Georgia, Duke and Texas. Rounding out the bottom five, is California, Ole Miss, Brigham Young, Vanderbilt and William & Mary. Other SEC teams in the top 25, include Arkansas (17th), Tennessee (19th) and Kentucky (24th).
In singles, Agnes Muzamel is ranked 13th in the nation with a 27-11 overall record, 13-8 at the No. 1 position. Ivona Mihailova dropped to 24th with a 28-14 overall record, 11-9 at No. 2 singles. The doubles rankings will be released Wednesday. In the last poll, Muzamel and Courtenay Chapman were No. 8. The two have been ranked in the top 10 in every poll for the past two years.
The Lady Rebels have finished the regular season and are waiting to see if they will be one of ten teams selected automatically for the NCAA Team Championships in Notre Dame, Ind., or if they will have to go through a regional. Selections will be made May 5.
