Tim Sandkaulen joined the Ole Miss coaching staff on Jan. 8, 2024, after retiring from the pro tour. The 2025-26 season will mark his third year as a coach for the women's tennis team.
The two-time All-American achieved an ATP doubles career-high ranking of 172 in September and was ranked No. 188 in doubles. Sandkaulen amassed a 69-46 doubles record from 2021-23 in ITF and ATP pro tournaments, including 11 final appearances and six tournament wins.
As a professional, the Monchengladbach, Germany, native won 22 doubles matches and advanced to three doubles finals. In July 2023, Sandkaulen and doubles partner Neil Oberleitner won The Tennis Open in Karlsruhe, Germany. In their four matches, the duo took down five top-200 players and the ATP No. 86 player.
In his first season assisting Ole Miss' women's tennis program, the Rebels went 12-11. Sandkaulen assisted in coaching six players to double figure wins in overall singles matches, including fellow German, Emma Kette. Kette won 17 singles matches in the season, and led the team with 13 dual wins.
Sandkaulen assisted in coaching three athletes in their quest for an individual NCAA title in 2024. Ludmila Kareisová, Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Lucie Petruzelova each made an appearance in the 2024 NCAA Individual Tournament in Waco, Texas. Sending three athletes to the individual tournament is the most since 2000. That season, he helped guide the Rebels to a 15-13 overall record and its first team berth to the NCAA Tournament since 2021. Fifteen wins was also the most by any Rebel team since 2017-18.
Sandlauken was a standout player for the Ole Miss Rebels, finishing with the tenth most singles wins (91) and third most doubles wins in program history (92). He is one of two Rebels to ever win 90-plus in both singles and doubles. During his playing career from 2016-2021, Sandkaulen guided the Rebels to five straight NCAA appearances, including two Sweet 16 runs in 2018 and 2021.
Individually, he was a two-time NCAA Singles Championships qualifier and qualified for NCAA Doubles Championships in 2021. Sandkaulen and teammate Finn Reynolds finished the 2020-21 season as the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation with a 16-3 record. He ranked as high as No. 15 in singles during his junior year.
The All-American garnered a multitude of awards throughout his five seasons. Sandkaulen earned All-SEC First Team honors twice and Second Team in 2019. The ITA also recognized him with the ITA Southern Senior of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship, and Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Awards in 2021.
Sandkaulen was incredible on the court but also a remarkable student and impactful in the Oxford community. He was Ole Miss’ SEC representative for the Community Service Team three times. He made the SEC First Year Player Honor Roll in 2017 and proceeded to make the SEC Academic Honor Roll every year. The ITA labeled him as an ITA Scholar-Athlete in his final three seasons.
Sandkaulen earned his bachelor’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications at Ole Miss in May 2021.
In June of 2023, Sandkaulen married the former Alexa Bortles in a ceremony at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, where the couple resides.
