Former Rebel Jacob Gonzalez Called Up by the Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox announced on Saturday that they would be calling up 2023 first round pick and 2022 national champion Jacob Gonzalez. He will join the team today in Chicago prior to their game against the Detroit Tigers.
Once Gonzalez takes the field, he will be the 58th Rebel in program history to make it to the big leagues and the first to make their debut in 2026.
Gonzalez has been one of the hottest hitters in the minor leagues during the month of May, hitting .344 with 11 home runs, 36 RBI, and 21 runs scored. He has hit four home runs over his last three games and is seven for his last eight.
Over 52 games with the Charlotte Knights in 2026, Gonzalez is hitting .317 with 19 home runs, 62 RBI, and an OPS of 1.087. He has already set career highs in those categories and was closing in on career highs in runs and total bases before the call up.
Over three seasons with Ole Miss, Gonzalez hit .319 in his career with 40 home runs, 158 RBI, 186 runs scored over 186 career games. He ranks top 10 in program history in home runs, total bases, runs scored, RBI, and walks. His 73 runs scored in 2021 are the second-most in a single season in program history.
The California native was named the D1Baseball Freshman of the Year, a Second Team All-American, and a First Team Freshman All-American in 2021 after he led all freshmen nationally in hits and runs scored. He earned All-SEC and ABCA All-South Region honors in 2021, 2022, and 2023 and also played for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in both 2021 and 2022.
Gonzalez was drafted by the White Sox as the 15th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. He was the eighth first round pick in Ole Miss history.
