Kid Coach: Emma Eubank

Kid Coach is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Ole Miss Rebels to salute pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are.
This week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Coach is Emma Eubank of Petal.
On an ordinary summer day in 2023, the world changed in an instant for nine-year-old Emma. While at home with her mother and brothers, Emma had a frightening seizure. That night, her mom and dad brought Emma to the ER at Children's of Mississippi. An EEG the next day came with a diagnosis: epilepsy. Later that summer, she was also diagnosed with neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), a genetic disorder affecting nerves that carries an increased risk for epilepsy.
The next few years included several trips to the ER to control seizures, as well as hospital stays at Children's for advanced epilepsy care, including video EEGs. She also has had several MRIs and follow-up appointments. During a time with a lot of questions and uncertainty, Emma's care team at Children's of Mississippi gave Emma's family the medical expertise and comfort they need to successfully manage Emma's diagnoses.
Emma's dad said they are forever grateful to the Children's staff for the way they have eased their hearts and minds so many times. In fact, Emma calls the sixth floor at Children's "Disney World" because of the love and attention showered on her there!
Now 12 years old, Emma still has challenging days with absence or focal seizures, and she relies on multiple medications to manage her condition. Her care team also continues to monitor her for issues with the NF1 and epilepsy. But she's doing very well and hasn't had any major seizures for the past two years.
With her service dog, Clyde, at her side ready to alert to oncoming seizures, Emma is pursuing so many things she enjoys. She loves dancing and singing in her show choir at Petal Upper Elementary School. She is also learning to play the piano. She also loves swimming, hanging out with friends and being part of the kids' ministry at Petal First Baptist Church.
