Softball Drops Heartbreaker at No. 15 LSU
4/17/2026 | Softball
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Ole Miss softball program carried a lead into the final moments, but were unable to hang on, falling 6-4 to No. 15 LSU on Friday evening.
The Rebels (27-19, 2-14 SEC) built a late advantage, but were unable to hold off the Tigers (30-14, 7-9 SEC) who rallied to retake the lead in the sixth inning.
The Rebels fell into an early deficit, as LSU struck for a solo home run in the first inning. However, the Rebels delivered an immediate response in the top of the second inning, as Madi George launched her 16th home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Emilee Boyer shored things up in the circle through the next three frames, holding the LSU offense off the board. Boyer picked up a pair of strikeouts and recorded a one-two-three third inning. In the fourth inning, Boyer flashed the leather to get out unscathed, snaring a liner up the middle and promptly doubled up the runner at third base.
Ole Miss finally broke through in the fifth inning that was started by a well-worked walk from Taylor Malvin. Kennedy Bunker reached on an error and both runners advanced on a passed ball to set up Mackenzie Pickens. Pickens helped deliver the lead with an RBI groundout to make it 2-1.
From there, Persy Llamas stepped to the plate and delivered a critical, two run blast to center field, extending the lead to 4-1.
However, in the sixth inning, the Tigers started a rally with two outs in the frame. An RBI single followed by an inside the park home run helped LSU emerge with a 6-4 lead.
The Rebels made one final push in the seventh inning, thanks to hits from Malvin and Bunker, but the Tigers managed to secure the victory with a foul out and pair of strikeouts.
The Rebels are back in action on Saturday, facing off against the No. 15 Tigers at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
