Softball Rolls Past UT Martin in Doubleheader Sweep

3/3/2026 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program tallied a pair of run rule victories, sweeping a doubleheader against UT Martin on Tuesday at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.

The Rebels (18-5, 0-0 SEC) improved to 8-0 at home with a 12-4 victory in game one over the Skyhawks (12-9, 0-0 OVC), before securing a 10-0 win in the finale.

GAME ONE | Ole Miss 12, UT Martin 4 (F/6)
After a quick opening frame from Kyra Aycock in the circle, the Rebel offense exploded for seven runs in the first to put the game out of reach from the start.

A leadoff single by Tenly Grisham, followed by a Skyhawk error and Persy Llamas walk loaded the bases immediately for Madi George. The freshman drove in the opening run on a fielder's choice to start the big inning. Cassie Reasner followed suit with a two-run single and Kennedy Bunker added another RBI single to make it 4-0.

Taylor Roman reloaded the bases with a walk and Grace Thompson drove in additional run with a groundout to make it 5-0. Laylonna Applin would finish off the big inning with a two RBI double to make it 7-0.

The Rebels would tack on two more runs in the second, as George singled and Reasner doubled to set up Bunker. A fielder's choice drove in one run and a subsequent error on the play allowed Reasner to score from second base to make it 9-0.

UT Martin struck for a run in the fourth inning on a solo home run, but the Rebels got the run back in the bottom half of the frame. Reasner singled, Makenna Bellaire reached and Liesl Osteen walked to load the bases with no outs. For the second time this season, Rachel Connors drawing a bases loaded walk, making it 10-1.

The Skyhawks extended the game in the fifth inning, scoring three runs in the frame to take the run rule out of play. However, the Rebels would finally take care of business in the sixth inning, as Ryan Starr walked and Alexa Rosales picked up her first collegiate hit to get two runners on. Llamas helped ice the game with a two-run double to walk off with a 12-4 win.

GAME TWO | Ole Miss 10, UT Martin 0 (F/5)
Once again, the Rebels surged in the opening inning to stifle the visitors, scoring six runs in the first. Grisham led off the game with a single again and was promptly driven home on a two-run home run from Llamas.

George was next up and singled, followed by a Reasner walk. Roman delivered the second home run of the inning with a three-run blast to left field and make it 5-0. Thompson would make it back-to-back home runs with a solo blast to right field, to increase the lead to 6-0.

In the second inning, Grisham set the tone again with a single and Mackenzie Pickens drew a walk to put the pressure on the Skyhawks. George would drive home another run on a single, while Reasner picked up an RBI groundout to make it 8-0.

Grisham's big day continued in the third inning, as Applin doubled in front of her, before Grisham doubled her home for a 9-0 lead. Llamas picked up another RBI later in the frame on an RBI single to make it 10-0.

Lilly Whitten carried a perfect game into the fourth inning in the circle and while the Skyhawks picked up two hits in the fourth inning, Whitten polished off a complete game shutout in the fifth inning. Whitten tallied a season-high seven strikeouts in the win, just one off her career-high.

The Rebels are now set to open the 2026 SEC campaign, beginning with a three-game series against No. 4 Alabama. Game one is set for Friday at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
