Women’s Tennis Defeated by No. 3 Texas A&M

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 37 Ole Miss Women's Tennis team lost to No. 3 Texas A&M, 4-1, at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Friday night.
Beginning with doubles, Ole Miss (9-8, 3-7 SEC) gained the advantage early on court one, for No. 23 Emily Welker and Andrea Nova defeated No. 8 Mia Kupres and Lucciana Perez, 6-3. The Aggies then took the next court after No. 75 Violeta Martinez and Ilinca Amariei beat Alice Soulié and Riley Crowder, 6-4.
Lexington Reed and Daria Smetannikov then clinched the doubles point for Texas A&M (17-3, 9-1 SEC) against Ichino Horikawa and Beatrice Stagno after winning 6-4.
In singles, the Aggies would tack on their second match point after securing the first singles court. However, soon after, Crowder would get the Rebels on the scoreboard with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Reed, cutting the match deficit to 2-1.
The Aggies would then go on to secure the the next three singles courts as No. 96 Martinez would beat Horikawa, 6-2, 6-3; No. 2 Perez would defeat No. 15 Welker, 7-5, 6-3; and No. 54 Amarei delivered the clinching point with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win against Nova.
The Rebels were finding success on courts two and six, but the matches went unfinished. Soulié was close to earning a ranked victory against No. 31 Kupres, holding the 7-5, 3-6, 4-2 advantage, while Stagno was in a close competition against Smetannikov with the pair both having traded a set, 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 1-2.
The Rebels will be back at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center on Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m. CT to take on No. 7 Texas.
