Softball Falls in Game Two to No. 4 Oklahoma
3/22/2026 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program fell into an early hole and could not recover, falling 14-2 to No. 4 Oklahoma on Sunday evening at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
The Rebels (20-13, 0-8 SEC) allowed four runs in the first inning and couldn't push back into the game in the loss to the Sooners (31-2, 5-0 SEC).
The Rebels fell into a deep early hole, as the Sooners tallied four runs in the first inning and two in the second inning. However, Cassie Reasner tried to spark a rally, leading off the second inning with a solo home run to cut the lead to 6-1.
Despite the home run, the Sooners stifled a further response and increased the lead to 8-1 in the third inning with a two-run home run. That lead ballooned further in the fourth inning, as Oklahoma emerged with a 14-1 advantage.
The Rebels tried to respond in the bottom of the fourth inning as Madi George doubled and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. However, the Sooners prevented any runs from coming across.
After Lilly Whitten entered in relief and struck out the side in the fifth inning, the Rebels were able to get back on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Rachel Connors tallied a pinch hit double and Taylor Malvin walked to open the frame. After a fielder's choice advanced Ryan Starr to third base, Mackenzie Pickens drove her home with a sacrifice fly to make it 14-2. However, the Rebel rally would stop there as Oklahoma secured the final out to end the game early.
The Rebels and Sooners will face off for the finale of the three-game set on Monday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
