Softball Drops Game Two at No. 2 Texas
3/14/2026 | Softball
AUSTIN, Texas – The Ole Miss softball program dropped the second of three games against No. 2 Texas, 11-2, on Saturday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
The Rebels (19-10, 0-5 SEC) built an early advantage but could not hold off the Longhorns (25-1, 5-0 SEC) offense.
The Rebels opened up with a bang, striking for the first run of the game in the second inning. A Cassie Reasner single got things started and after she advanced to second base, she was promptly driven in by Taylor Roman on an RBI double to make it 1-0.
However, the Longhorns were able to strike back in the bottom half of the second, thanks to an RBI single from Katie Stewart.
The hosts were ultimately able to pull away, thanks to a three-run third inning. The Longhorns tacked on three extra runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 advantage.
While the Longhorns increased the lead to 8-1 in the fifth inning, the Rebels mounted a comeback bid in the sixth. Roman led the charge again, blasting a home run off the second-floor windows of the apartment buildings in left field to make it 8-2. Roman finished the day a triple short of the cycle, tallying a 3-for-3 performance with two RBI.
A single by Grace Thompson and back-to-back walks from Laylonna Applin and Rachel Connors loaded the bases with one out. However, the Rebels were unable to drive home any more runs in the frame.
Ultimately, the Longhorns were able to secure the victory with a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
The Rebels will wrap up the three-game series against the Longhorns on Sunday, facing off at 12 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
