Track & Field’s Jordan Urrutia Again Smashes 200-Meter Record

2/6/2026 | Track and Field

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Ole Miss track & field sophomore Jordan Urrutia wasted no time in resetting his own school record in the 200-meter dash, dismantling it less than one week later following a dazzling performance to lead the Rebels on Day One of the New Mexico Classic on Friday.

Last Saturday at Clemson, Urrutia became only the second Rebel to ever break the 21-second barrier in the 200-meter indoors, clocking in at 20.89 to break Kendrick Triggs' 2002 record 20.90. Among some of the fastest sprinters in the nation in the men's invitational section of the 200 on Friday, Urrutia took a sledgehammer to his barely chiseled-in record, blazing an eye-opening 20.60 to win his heat and finish third overall.

That time, when converted down to 20.67 for altitude, ranks Urrutia eighth both in the United States and the NCAA this season, as well as fourth on the hyper-competitive SEC leaderboards.

Ole Miss had an all-around superb day in the 200-meter dash, as evidenced by going 4-for-4 on PRs in the unseeded men's section earlier in the day.

Fellow sophomore Wesley Todd inched closer to that 21-second barrier himself, notching an indoor PR 21.08 (21.15 after conversion) to finish 11th in the open section. That time moves him to fourth in Ole Miss history indoors, and it led the way for an impressive pack of 200-meter races from Tarique Wright (15th, 21.22/21.29; No. 7 Ole Miss history), Dekell Minor (26th, 21.37/21.44; No. 11) and Joshua Knox (27th, 21.37/21.44; No. 11).

In the women's unseeded section, freshman Patchnalie Compere – fresh off her own record-breaking day at Clemson last week – ran another great 200, finishing fourth overall at 23.46 (23.53). Senior Alicia Burnett made her Ole Miss 200 debut, finishing ninth at 23.75 (23.82), good for No. 10 in school history indoors.

Senior Chase Rose continued to chip away in the 800-meter, breaking through tonight with a win on an indoor PR of 1:48.65 (1:48.05 after conversion) that moves him into 10th all-time at Ole Miss. Connor Henson finished fourth at an indoor PR 1:50.37 (1:49.76), while Stone Smith was sixth in his first career 800 at 1:53.24 (1:52.61).

In the women's 800-meter, senior Cassie Williamson posted another strong finish in second place at 2:08.40 (2:07.69 after conversion).

Ole Miss also came away with a pair of victories in the field. Junior Mary Cate Doughty led a trio of Rebels at the top of the leaderboard in the B Section of the women's pole vault, clearing 3.95m/12-11.50. She earned the win on total misses over sophomore Katelyn Hulsey, who posted a massive improvement for the second straight week with a clearance at that same 3.95m/12-11.50 – an overall PR that ties her for 14th all-time at Ole Miss indoors. Junior Aly Francolini also cleared a career-best in third place at 3.85m/12-07.50.

The other win came courtesy of senior and reigning NCAA Outdoor high jump champion Arvesta Troupe, who took his second crown of the season at 2.19m/7-02.25.

Competition begins for Ole Miss at 10:20 a.m. CT on Saturday morning with the resumption of the men's heptathlon.
