2026 Ole Miss Men's DMR, SEC Silver Medalists

Track & Field Takes Silver in Men’s DMR to Open SEC Indoor Championships

2/26/2026 | Track and Field

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Ole Miss track & field won the silver medal in the men's distance medley relay following a gutsy anchor leg by junior Evan Thornton-Sherman to open the 2026 SEC Indoor Championships on Thursday.

The preceding legs of Gabe Scales (1200-meter, 2:59.55), Cade Flatt (400-meter, 46.49) and Carson Turner (800-meter, 1:48.96) kept the Rebels in the hunt when Thornton-Sherman got the baton, but the junior Vermont native ripped off a 3:55.35 mile anchor to push the Rebels across the line in 9:30.34 – the No. 8 time in Ole Miss history that fell less than a half-second off champion South Carolina's winning 9:30.08.

Tonight's heroics continues an impressive legacy for the Ole Miss men in the DMR. Since 2014, the Rebels have finished as the silver medalists or better in 11 of 13 tries at the conference meet.

All 16 of Ole Miss' meet points so far have come from the Rebel distance squad, all right at the end of the day's competition.

Right before the DMR, the senior duo of Aiden Britt and Kidus Misgina provided a double-shot of scoring in the men's 5K. Britt set a new PR for the second time this month, finishing fourth at an overall career-best 13:41.31 – just over a half-second off the podium. That time moves Britt to fourth in Ole Miss history indoors, and it was just ahead of Misgina in sixth place at 13:42.77 – giving Ole Miss eight total points in the event.

Ole Miss received 4.5 points in women's competition on Day One from sophomore Lily Beattie in the pole vault. Beattie tied her indoor PR at 4.15m/13-07.25 in a tie for fourth place, and just missed at the next height of a would-be PR of 4.30m/14-01.25 that would have put her in the bronze medal position. Fellow sophomore Katie McFarland had a career-day, clearing an overall PR height of 4.15m/13-07.25 to tie for ninth overall and move into a tie with Beattie for sixth on the all-time list indoors at Ole Miss.

The Rebel women's distance medley relay just narrowly missed scoring following a season-best ninth-place showing. The foursome of Beth Arentz (1200-meter, 3:25.53), Jo-Lauren Keane (400-meter, 55.52), Cassie Williamson (800-meter, 2:07.54) and Sophie Baumann (mile, 4:45.57) crossed the line in 11:14.15, fifth-best in school history and less than a half-second off eighth-place Mississippi State (11:13.83).

Freshman Patchnalie Compere shined in her first career SEC meet, finishing 17th in a powerful women's 200-meter dash prelim at a new PR of 23.18. That time breaks her Ole Miss freshman record and the Haitian national record indoors, and it moves her into a tie for second in school history indoors.

Competition resumes on Day Two for Ole Miss on Friday at 11 a.m. CT with the women's weight throw.
