No. 14 Softball Beats CSUN, Falls to Boise State
2/6/2026 | Softball
FULLERTON, Calif. – The Ole Miss softball program earned a split on day two of the Easton Classic, defeating CSUN, before falling to Boise State on Friday at Anderson Family Field.
The Rebels (2-2, 0-0 SEC) opened the day with a 13-1 run rule victory over CSUN (1-1, 0-0 Big West) but dropped the finale to the Broncos (1-1, 0-0 MWC), 3-2.
GAME ONE | No. 14 Ole Miss 13, CSUN 1 (F/5)
The day began slowly, but the Rebels were buoyed by pitcher Lilly Whitten, who made her Rebel debut one to remember. Whitten powered through the first two innings with three strikeouts, allowing time for her offense to heat up.
In the third inning, the Rebel offense clicked. Mackenzie Pickens drove in the opening run with an RBI double and was promptly driven in by Kennedy Bunker with an RBI single to make it 2-0. The Rebels quickly strung more hits together, with Rachel Connors driving in two more on an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.
While CSUN got a run in the bottom half of the frame, the offense continued to surge. Back-to-back singles form Tenly Grisham and Pickens kick started the team, as the Rebels would score two runs on an error and sacrifice fly by Persy Llamas to make it 6-1. Madi George was next up and crushed her first collegiate home run to extend the lead to 8-1.
A pitching change from the Matadors proved to be ineffective, as Cassie Reasner walked, Connors singled, before Grace Thompson and Taylor Malvin delivered back-to-back RBI doubles to take an 11-1 advantage.
With the game firmly in hand, the Rebels tacked on additional runs in the fifth inning on a Reasner RBI single and bases loaded walk by Malvin to secure the final 13-1 win.
GAME TWO | No. 14 Ole Miss 2, Boise State 3
The second game of the day proved to be a pitching duel, as Emilee Boyer took the circle for the Rebels. Boyer shined from the start, picking up five strikeouts through three scoreless frames to open the game.
The first hit of the game came from Llamas in the fourth, but offense proved to be difficult to come by, as both teams couldn't break through.
Nevertheless, the Rebels were able to string together a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Three walks from Connors, Boyer and Malvin set up the Rebels with the bases loaded. A fielder's choice RBI from Grisham and an RBI single from Pickens accounted for the runs in the frame as the Rebels built a late lead.
However, a three-run home run by the Broncos would doom the Rebels, who saw rally attempts in the final two frames come up empty.
The Rebels will wrap up action in the Easton Classic with a rematch against CSUN at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday.
