Softball Sweeps Jacksonville State, ULM on Day Two of Ole Miss Classic

2/28/2026 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program continued its winning ways at home, earning a sweep of Jacksonville State and ULM on day two of the Ole Miss Classic at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.

The Rebels (15-5, 0-0 SEC) earned a 4-1 victory over the Gamecocks (14-7, 0-0 CUSA) in game one, before securing a 7-1 win over the Warhawks (13-8, 0-0 Sun Belt) in the nightcap.

GAME ONE | Ole Miss 4, Jacksonville State 1
The Rebels were paced by a strong showing in the circle from Emilee Boyer, who commanded the game from the start. Boyer struck out the side in the first inning and kept the Gamecocks hitless through the first four innings, racking up five strikeouts.

The offense struggled to get going through the first three frames, but Madi George helped kick start the team in the fourth, leading off the frame with a solo home run to make it 1-0.

In the fifth inning, the Gamecocks finally recorded a hit and generated some momentum with a bunt single on the next play. After a sacrifice bunt, Boyer fought through a hard liner right back at her to recover and gun down the run coming home. However, Jacksonville State would later score on a passed ball to tie the game.

Lilly Whitten would enter the circle and inherit a 3-0 count, but calmly worked her way back into the count, before securing a foul out to strand the potential go-ahead run.

Needing a response, Taylor Malvin picked up a single in the bottom of the fifth inning to set up Mackenzie Pickens. Pickens delivered the knockout punch with a two-run home run to take a 3-1 lead.

The lead increased further, as Persy Llamas tripled and George walked and was replaced on the base paths by Izzy Rettiger. Rettiger's speed helped execute a double steal, with both runners ending up safe and Llamas scoring to make it 4-1.

Whitten's strong outing continued, as she stifled any attempt at a comeback from the Gamecocks. Whitten finished the day with 2.1 innings of one-hit relief to secure the victory.

GAME TWO | Ole Miss 7, ULM 1
Game two followed a similar pattern to the opener, as both sides featured strong pitching. Kyra Aycock took the circle for the Rebels and picked up two strikeouts in the first inning to set the tone for the night.

The Rebels had early chances on offense, with a first inning double from Llamas and a second inning walk by Laylonna Applin but struggled to break through.

Meanwhile, Aycock stranded the bases loaded in the second inning, before picking up another strikeout in the third inning. Aycock finished with five strikeouts and allowed just five hits over five innings of work.

The Rebels finally broke the dam in the fourth inning, thanks to a lead off Cassie Reasner walk, followed by a Kennedy Bunker single. That was enough to set up Taylor Roman, who dropped in an RBI single on the next at-bat for a 1-0 lead.

After Applin loaded the bases with another walk, Rachel Connors drew a bases-loaded walk of her own to make it 2-0. From there, Malvin broke the game open with a two RBI single to make it 4-0.

Pickens added a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0, but George was not finished. The freshman smacked her team-leading seventh home run of the season to hang seven runs on the Warhawks in the frame.

ULM struck for a run in the fifth inning, but the Rebels turned to Whitten once again to close out the win. Whitten delivered two hitless innings of relief and secured the lead for good.

The Rebels will wrap up the Ole Miss Classic on Sunday, facing off a second time with ULM at 1 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
