Rifle Sets Program Air Rifle Record in Weekend Sweep of Memphis
2/15/2026 | Rifle
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ole Miss rifle had a historic outing against Memphis, besting the Tigers 4740-4723 Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Rebels (9-2) set the program record for the best air rifle score in Ole Miss history, firing a 2390 against the Tigers. The top four scorers didn't fall below 595 and averaged a 597.5 score between the counters. Ole Miss tied the previous record of 2388 just last weekend at the PRC Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The original record was set in the 2021-22 season.
Under first-year head coach Will Shaner, Ole Miss has put up the two best air rifle scores in program history, tied its aggregate record once (against Murray State in the spring opener), set the best program smallbore score ever (2368, also at Murray State), and the third highest aggregate score in program history.
Also under the guidance of Shaner, the Rebels are on a six-match winning streak when taking head-to-head matches into account, which is the longest such streak since the 2021-22 season. They have scored at least 4730 in six matches this season, which is the most in program history.
Additionally, Ole Miss has reached the 4740 thresholds now four times this season, contributing to one of the best all-around teams Ole Miss has ever had. The Rebels have yet to fall below 4700 in aggregate scoring so far this season.
Ole Miss hit two major milestones which have become common for the Rebels under Shaner. Ole Miss recorded its sixth instance of a smallbore score north of 2350 by hitting that score exactly, and its 2390 mark in air rifle is its seventh time over the 2380 threshold. Those are both respective program records.
Audrey Gogniat had another stellar outing for Ole Miss, taking home the top individual shooter score once again with her 1192 aggregate. The other three Rebel counters occupied slots No. 3, 4 and 5 on the individual aggregate score, which was especially due to the dominant air rifle scores.
Gracie Dinh claimed the third spot, scoring 1186, Jordan de Jesus hit 1182 and Regan Diamond rounded the scoring with an 1180.
Gogniat highlighted Ole Miss' smallbore efforts by pacing the team with a 594 score. Scores above 590 have become the standard for Gogniat, who has reached that total seven times this season alone. Her 594 tally is tied for her season best, which she's now done four times this year.
Dinh followed behind with a 587, earning the bronze medal for the event. Diamond and de Jesus were behind them at 585 and 584, respectively, to round out Ole Miss' smallbore total.
The real show began in air rifle after an intermission. Both Gogniat and Dinh popped out for strong start, with Gogniat connecting on her first 43 shots for bullseyes. Gogniat would finish the day with a 598 score in the event to finish with an 1192 aggregate to score the top spot.
Not to be outdone, Dinh took it further by shooting 52 consecutive bullseyes and was on pace to shoot her second career perfect score. After slipping with a 9.5, Dinh rebounded to score a 10 in her remaining attempts to finish with a match-best 599.
De Jesus got in on the action, firing a career-high 598 in the event. The sophomore has demonstrated impressive improvement since the start of this season, having set, tied and reset her personal air rifle best so far this season. With her trajectory, she is the next most likely Rebel to join the 600 Club in air rifle.
History hanging in the balance, Diamond was Ole Miss' last athlete on the line. She entered the final 10 shots with a 398 score, and any score at or above 594 would set the team's record. She started to falter midway through the final stretch but held strong to finish with a 595. In doing so, she solidified Ole Miss' history-making day by besting the previous record by two scores.
Susan Carter led the way for Ole Miss in the second relay, scoring an aggregate 1173. Her score is a season high, and her smallbore total of 581 is tied for a season high as well. Claudia Muzik also had a solid performance by setting a season high in air rifle with a 592 score, tying with Carter but winning in terms of X count.
Ole Miss is back in Oxford for the NCAA Qualifier on Saturday, Feb. 21.
