Women’s Tennis Wins Both Matches of Doubleheader in Virginia

NORFOLK, Va. – Ole Miss women's tennis picks up wins at Old Dominion and versus Hampton at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Saturday.
 
The Rebels (3-1, 0-0 SEC) began their day taking down Old Dominion (1-2, 0-0 SBC), 5-2. 
 
On court one, No. 66 Andrea Nova and Emily Welker faced No. 75 Victoria Mataskova and Kira Matushkina, with the Rebels winning the ranked matchup, 6-3. Riley Crowder and Alice Soulié would secure the doubles point for the Rebels against Uladzislava and Marina Markina, 6-3.
 
The final doubles match pitted Ichino Horikawa and Brooklyn Olson against No. 45 Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova. The match would be unfinished, with the Monarchs having a 5-3 advantage.
 
Moving on to singles, No. 8 Welker finished first with a quick win versus No. 65 Matushkina, 6-1, 6-3. Riley Crowder kept up the momentum for the Rebels, defeating Rasskouskaia, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Alice Soulié was able to secure the win for Ole Miss. After dropping the first set, Soulié would rally against Matasova, winning a tight second set on the way to a victory, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
 
Both teams agreed to continue to play to the conclusion of every match with the Rebels victory in hand. Andrea Nova was able to tally another win for the Rebels in three sets facing Ulazislava Manzhos, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. The Monarch would take the final two matches to round out the score of 5-2.
 
Following their match against the Monarchs, the Rebels stayed put for a match against Hampton and jept up their momentum from the previous match. 
 
Soulié and Crowder would play Tanya Midzi and Melis Sakiroglu while Horikawa and Owen Wilkinson played Chelsea Chakanyuka, with the Rebels winning both, 6-1, to secure the doubles point. Wilkinson's win marked her first dual match doubles win of the freshman's career.
 
No. 66 Nova and Welker faced Serena Bryan and Samira Khazieva, with the match being unfinished, 5-1.
 
The Rebels were able to quickly conclude the match with three quick singles wins: No. 8 Welker defeated Bryan, 6-1, 6-1. Nova won versus Midzi, 6-0, 6-1. Crowder clinched the final point against Chakanyuka, 6-1, 6-0, to move the tally to 4-0.
 
Three matches remained unfinished: Soulié versus Ghorab, 6-1, 4-2; Horikawa versus Khazieva, 6-3, 1-1; Wilkinson versus Sakiroglu, 6-3, 2-2. The second win of the day was the fourth straight for the Rebels, moving them to 5-1 overall.
 
The Rebels will be back in Oxford next weekend for their home opener, playing Memphis on Friday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. CT.
