Whitten Throws No-Hitter, Trachsel Becomes Winningest Coach at Ole Miss in Friday Sweep
2/13/2026 | Softball
LAFAYETTE, La. – On a historic afternoon, the No. 21 Ole Miss softball program earned a sweep of two games, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Louisiana on Friday.
The Rebels (6-3, 0-0 SEC) made history in the opener, as pitcher Lilly Whitten threw a no-hitter in a six inning, 8-0 run rule victory over the Islanders (1-5, 0-0 SLC).
In the second game, head coach Jamie Trachsel became the program's all-time winningest coach, recording her 188th victory in a 5-2 decision against the Ragin' Cajuns (3-2, 0-0 Sun Belt).
GAME ONE | No. 21 Ole Miss 8, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 0 (F/6)
In her fourth appearance as a Rebel, Whitten shined from the get-go, generating an early double play and setting the tone for the offense. Taylor Malvin singled and Mackenzie Pickens drew a hit-by-pitch, before Persy Llamas gave the Rebels an early 1-0 advantage.
From there, Cassie Reasner drove in another run with an RBI single and Makenna Bellaire picked up her biggest hit as a Rebel so far, driving in two more to extend the lead to 4-0 in the opening frame.
Whitten generated another double play in the second inning and picked up two strikeouts through three innings. Her offense continued to shine, as Madi George walked, Reasner doubled and Taylor Roman walked, before Grace Thompson drove in a fifth run on a fielder's choice.
Whitten cruised through the fourth and fifth inning in 1-2-3 fashion and nearly secured her no-hitter in the bottom half of the frame, as the Rebel offense pushed for a run rule victory. A two-out double by Thompson, followed by an Islander error ultimately set up a Ryan Starr steal of home to make it 6-0. Tenly Grisham stole third base on the next play, before Malvin drove her in to make it 7-0. However, the Islanders would force a sixth inning.
Despite the extra inning, Whitten picked up a strikeout and worked around a walk to finish with a sixth-straight no-hit frame. Her offense secured her the no-hitter in the bottom half of the frame, thanks to an RBI single by George.
GAME TWO | No. 21 Ole Miss 5, Louisiana 2
Riding the momentum of game one into game two, the Rebels shined across all sides of the ball. Pickens opened up the game with a solo home run, while Kyra Aycock continued the hitless streak with two hitless innings to open the game.
While Louisiana was able to manufacture a 2-1 lead in the third inning, the Rebels quickly took the lead back for good in the top of the fourth. The Rebels tallied four consecutive hits, with RBI singles from Pickens and Llamas to take a 4-2 lead.
Aycock promptly got back to work in what became a complete game, in which she conceded only two unearned runs and struck out four. The Newnan, Ga., native retired nine of the next 10 batters she faced. Meanwhile, a Malvin double to lead off the sixth inning and an RBI single by George helped extend the lead to 5-2.
From there, Aycock navigated around a leadoff single and remained composed, picking up a strikeout and making a fine defensive play on a hot shot back at her to secure her third victory of the season.
The Rebels will wrap up their stint at the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational on Saturday, with a rematch against Louisiana at 1:30 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed via ESPN Plus.
