Track & Field Wraps First Day at Clemson’s Bob Pollock Invitational
1/30/2026 | Track and Field
CLEMSON, S.C. – Ole Miss men's and women's track & field nabbed one event win and several career-best performances at the first day of Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational on Friday.
Junior Akaoma Odeluga took the crown in the women's weight throw, leading a strong Rebel presence in the women's final. Odeluga led wire-to-wire, but it was her sixth and final heave of 21.65m/71-00.50 that ended as her winning throw. Fellow junior Skylar Soli was in second place for the entirety of the competition as well, and also finished strong with her best a 21.08m/69-2 blast in the sixth round.
Freshman Natalie Brown unleashed a two-foot PR in fourth place at 19.43m/63-9 to leapfrog sophomore Naomi Woolfolk for 13th in school history, but Woolfolk had a one-foot improvement herself in fifth place at 19.18m/62-11.75 to hang on at 14th on Ole Miss' all-time list. Freshman Temidayo Owoyemi finished 13th at a career-best 17.26m/56-07.50.
Ole Miss dominated the men's weight throw as well, with all three Rebels in competition making the final. All-American senior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan was again the top collegiate finisher at 23.43m/76-10.50, finishing behind only professional Isaiah Rogers (23.78m/78-00.25).
Fellow senior Bryson Smith had another career day, finishing fourth at a PR toss of 22.24m/72-11.75 to improve upon his spot in second in Ole Miss history and move up to 11th in the NCAA this season. Smith and Robinson-O'Hagan are the lone 72-footers in program history.
Senior Mason Hickel stayed consistent as well, finishing seventh at 21.18m/69-6.
The Ole Miss women's pole vaulters had a strong overall showing in the seeded section of the event on Friday, led again by sophomore Lily Beattie. The reigning SEC Outdoor silver medalist was clean over her first two bars, including her best of the day at 4.12m/13-06.25 to finish third, before succumbing at 4.22m/13-10.
Juniors Mary Cate Doughty (T-6th, 3.97m/13-00.25) and Aly Francolini (T-8th, 3.82m/12-06.25) each set season bests, while junior transfer Rachel Homoly had her best day in a Rebel uniform, finished tied for sixth at 3.97m/13-00.25 to move to No. 13 in school history indoors.
On the track, sophomore Jordan Urrutia continued to impress with a blazing season debut in the 400-meter dash. Urrutia – who earlier this month took down Ole Miss' 300-meter record and also split an eye-opening 45.45 on the Rebels' best 4x400-meter relay since 2004 – clocked today's 400 at a career-best 46.63 to finish seventh. That time ranks Urrutia fourth on the Ole Miss all-time list indoors, ranks him as the third-best performer on a standard-sized track, and stands as the best 400-meter time by a Rebel indoors since 2007. This season, Urrutia now ranks 21st on the NCAA leaderboards.
In the men's mile, junior Evan Thornton-Sherman narrowly missed the four-minute barrier, finishing sixth at a career-best 4:00.27. That time moves him to No. 14 on Ole Miss' impressive all-time list that includes 12 performers below the four-minute line. Also running solid races on Friday were Kidus Misgina (seventh, 4:01.07; PR), Gabe Scales (eighth, 4:03.10), John Shoemaker (13th, 4:05.35; PR) and Zack Gilbertson (14th, 4:06.44; PR).
Ole Miss had a strong showing in the 60-meter dashes for the second straight meet. In the women's races, junior Royanah Farmer continued to march up Ole Miss' all-time list, finishing third in the prelim at a new PR 7.31 that puts her into a tie for sixth in school history. Freshman Patchnalie Compere also advanced to the semifinal at 7.48 in her first collegiate 60-meter race, a new Haitian national record.
Farmer went on to run 7.35 in the semifinal before scratching out of the final.
On the men's side, junior Dekell Minor and sophomore Tarique Wright both made the semifinal, with Minor earning an AQ at 6.76 and Wright a time qualifier at 6.82. Minor ran an Ole Miss career-best 6.71 in the semifinal – good for a tie for sixth in school history – but missed out on making the final.
Competition is set to resume Saturday morning at 9 a.m. CT with the open section of the women's pole vault.
