Women’s Tennis Sweeps Arkansas on Senior Day

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis celebrated its seniors by snapping a six-year losing streak against Arkansas in a 4-0 sweep, on Sunday afternoon at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
In head coach Mark Beyers' final home match of his career, the Rebels (13-10, 5-8 SEC) quickly set the tone for the match in doubles. Emily Welker and Alice Soulié dominated their court and earned a 6-0 victory in the third slot against the Razorbacks' (4-16, 1-12 SEC) Jimena Gomez Alonso and Katarina Pavlechova.
The deciding point on both remaining courts were in favor of the Rebels. Senior co-captains Ludmila Kareisová and Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher claimed the second doubles victory with a final of 6-3. Brooklyn Olson and Andrea Nova went unfinished with a 5-3 lead on court two.
Singles kept the same momentum throughout, with five Rebels securing their first set. Welker highlighted the first set battles of singles after claiming a 7-0 tie-break to secure a 7-6 advantage on court one.
Kareisová found herself in a 4-1 deficit but fought her way back to claim the lead. On court four, Soulié also won through a successful comeback attempt, 6-4.
The superb senior Lucie Petruzelova took home the victory on court three, in a mirrored 6-2, 6-2, straight set. Leclercq-Ficher followed suit and secured a comfortable advantage against the Razorbacks. The senior defeated Anet Koskel 6-1, 6-4, marking her third conference win this season.
A trio of courts were pushed to three sets, including Kareisová on court one, and Soulié on four. After dropping the second set, Soulié claimed a dominant 6-0 win in the third over her opponent to secure the match win and grab her second clinch of the year.
Three courts went unfinished, Welker against No. 66 Carolina Gomez Alonso 7-6 (7-0) 4-2, Karisová versus Olga Bienzobas 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 and Andrea Nova against Jimena Gomez-Alonso 5-7, 3-4.
Up next, the Rebels will travel to take on the Auburn Tigers on Friday, April 11, at 5 p.m. The Rebels will then journey to Gainesville, Fla., to face the Gators for the last regular season match on Sunday, April 13 at noon.
