MEET NOTES
• This will be a scored meet and will feature 16 teams across men's and women's competition currently within the national top-25 of the USTFCCCA Rating Index.
• The Ole Miss men currently rank at No. 10 in the Week Two index, the sixth top-10 appearance indoors for the Rebel men all-time and 21st overall in combined indoor program history. Head coach Connie Price-Smith owns all six men's top-10 appearances indoors, as well as 20 of the 21 total across men's and women's competition.
• Other ranked men's teams alongside the 10th-ranked Rebels this week are: No. 3 USC, No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 9 Illinois, No. 14 Texas, No. 18 Cal, No. 19 Arizona State, No. 20 New Mexico and No. 23 Iowa. Also sending men's teams to Albuquerque are Arizona, Azusa Pacific (Division II), Cal State Fullerton, LSU, Rutgers, Stanford, TCU and UCLA.
• The Ole Miss women will compete against: No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 4 Illinois, No. 7 Stanford, No. 21 LSU, No. 22 TCU, No. 24 New Mexico, No. 25 USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Azusa Pacific (Division II), Cal, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Rutgers, Texas and UCLA.
• Both Ole Miss squads are coming off an equally tough weekend of competition at Arkansas' Razorback Invitational, which featured three event titles and a handful of highly-ranked individual performances.
• Helping push the No. 10 Rebel men are four individual performances currently within national qualifying contention. Junior and two-time reigning NCAA shot put champion Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan owns two such marks of his own, first with his collegiate-leading shot put season-best of 21.02m/68-11.75, and then with his weight throw PR of 23.99m/78-08.50 that currently leads the SEC and ranks fourth collegiately. Fellow junior Arvesta Troupe owns a top-five mark of his own, ranked fourth in the high jump at his career-best 2.20m/7-02.50, with senior Toby Gillen also within that top-16 qualifying range with the 13th-fastest 3K at 7:48.66 from Arkansas last week.
• Robinson-O'Hagan is a member of the watch list for The Bowerman, which is track & field's version of the Heisman Trophy, and he has been named the SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week three times already this indoor season – including this past week following a powerful performance at Arkansas.
• Last week, Robinson-O'Hagan briefly regained the shot put world lead on his winning blast of 21.02m/68-11.75, his second career 21-meter throw that fell just one inch away from his overall career-best 21.05m/69-00.75 that won him his first of two NCAA titles as a sophomore in 2024. In victory, Robinson-O'Hagan bested the 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Rajindra Campbell of Jamaica, who took second at 20.45m/67-01.25.
• Robinson-O'Hagan also won the weight throw at 23.05m/75-07.50, which makes him only the second athlete in collegiate history to break 21 meters in the shot put and 23 meters in the weight throw within the same meet alongside North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl, who did so twice during the 2019 season.
• Robinson-O'Hagan's weight throw best of 23.99m/78-08.50 from the Vanderbilt Invitational broke his own school record by one foot, and it currently ranks him 17th in collegiate history.
• Robinson-O'Hagan ranks third in men's collegiate history indoors in combined weight throw and shot put distance at 45.04m, making him one of only three to ever break 78 feet in the weight (23.99m/78-08.50) and 69 feet in the shot (21.05m/69-0.75) behind North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl (45.92m) and Ohio State's Dan Taylor (45.34m) – the latter of whom was also coached by Ole Miss throws coach John Smith.
• The Rebel men's weight throwers looked to be a powerful group on paper entering the 2025 season, and have already proven that right with three currently ranked within the national top-40. Junior Bryson Smith is already the second-best in school history behind Robinson-O'Hagan, currently ranking 22nd nationally at his career-best 21.81m/71-06.75 from Vanderbilt. Smith and Robinson-O'Hagan are the lone 70-footers in Ole Miss history
• Also ranked within the top-40 in the men's weight throw is junior Mason Hickel, who sits at No. 32 on his career-best 21.08m/69-2 from Arkansas last week.
• Junior Arvesta Troupe's fifth-ranked high jump mark, meanwhile, came from Kentucky's Rod McCravy Invitational, where he cleared that overall career-best 2.20m/7-02.50. That height is the best by a Rebel men's jumper indoors since 2020, and it's tied for third all-time in Ole Miss history indoors. This season, Troupe's performance currently ranks tied for sixth in the United States.
• Senior Toby Gillen currently owns two top-25 times in just two races so far this indoor season. Last week at Arkansas, Gillen moved into second in Ole Miss history in the 3K after clocking a career-best 7:48.66 that ranks 13th nationally at the moment. Back in December, Gillen opened with a 5K at Boston University's season-opening meet at 13:30.34, currently the No. 24 time in the nation.
• Senior newcomer Kidus Misgina had an excellent 3K of his own in his first race as a Rebel last week, clocking a career-best 7:51.98 right behind Gillen. Misgina is already the No. 3 performer in the 3K all-time at Ole Miss, and that time currently ranks him 27th collegiately this year.
• Other notable performances from the Razorback Invitational include sophomore John Kendricks, who moved into a tie for fifth in Ole Miss history indoors in the pole vault after finishing fourth at 5.30m/17-04.50, and a pair of Rebel 4x400-meter relays that rank among the fastest at Ole Miss in more than a decade. The A squad of Wesley Todd, Max Armstrong, Jordan Urrutia and Cade Flatt ran a season best 3:10.83 – the fastest time at Ole Miss since 2012 (3:09.87) – while the B relay of Joshua Knox, Alec Reed, Carson Turner and Marcus Dropik ran 3:12.95, which would have been the fastest since 2013 (3:12.17) if not for A relay.
• Sophomore Akaoma Odeluga leads the way for the Rebel women, her top performance being her SEC-leading and collegiate No. 4 shot put best of 18.37m/60-03.25 from the Rod McCravy Invitational. That mark currently sits her at No. 9 worldwide and No. 4 in the United States this indoor season.
• Last week at Arkansas, Odeluga beat out reigning NCAA Outdoor champion and 2024 U.S. Olympian Jaida Ross of Oregon by one centimeter, 18.21m/59-9 to Ross' 18.20m/59-08.50.
• Odeluga already ranks third in Ole Miss history indoors at that career-best heave, and it made her one of three 60-footers indoors in Rebel women's history alongside Olympian Raven Saunders (19.56m/64-02.25) and All-American Jalani Davis (18.61m/61-00.75).
• Her performance also moved her to No. 21 all-time in collegiate history, making Ole Miss the lone school with three entrants in the top-25 alongside Saunders (No. 2) and Davis (No. 12).
• In the weight throw, Odeluga currently ranks 13th nationally and third in the SEC at her career-best 21.47m/70-05.25. Odeluga has already improved 11 feet in the weight throw from her freshman PR of 18.25m/59-10.50.
• Sophomore Mensi Stiff, a Second-Team All-American last season, joins Odeluga in the national shot put rankings at No. 32 on her season-best toss of 16.59m/54-05.25 from the Vanderbilt Invitational.
• Fellow sophomore Skylar Soli owns a top-40 mark in the weight throw of her own, currently ranking 31st nationally and sixth in the SEC at her career-best 20.38m/66-10.50.
