Rifle Takes Third Place in Home Season Finale

2/15/2025 | Rifle

OXFORD, Miss. – No. 6 Ole Miss rifle's high-scoring 4724 aggregate finish wasn't enough for TCU and Murray State on Saturday at the Ole Miss Rifle Range.

The Rebels (9-6, 1-3 PRC) took third in the event, as TCU claimed the top spot with 4740 and Murray State claiming 4725.

The Rebels continued to show improvements in air rifle, this time tying the third-highest program score ever. Ole Miss fired 2383 against the three-team field to tie the mark. This score has been reached twice before by Ole Miss teams, most recently at the 2023 NCAA Qualifier on Feb. 18, 2023.

Audrey Gogniat led the Rebels with an 1184 aggregate score, highlighted by her top match air rifle score of 599. The freshman phenom had 89 center shots and finished fourth in the individual standings. Gogniat's fellow freshmen, Gracie Dinh and Jordan de Jesus, joined her in the top 10 of individual standings, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.

M'Leah Lambdin fittingly opened the senior day festivities with a scorching start in kneeling. She fired a 198 from the position to lead the first relay Rebels heading into prone. She rode the momentum into the other two events, finishing with a 582. Only de Jesus bested her for the Rebels' first relay shooters, as she fired a 585 with a 10.9 final attempt. Lambdin has fired at least 580 in smallbore in her last eight appearances.

Dinh and Gogniat led the way in the second relay of smallbore for the Rebels. Dinh fired a 198 in the kneeling position to gain an early advantage. Following that, Horvath and Gogniat fired their third respective perfect prone scores of the season.

Dinh finished first for Ole Miss with a 589 score. It's her fifth time leading the team in the event this season and was good enough for a bronze medal on the overall event leaderboard.

In air rifle, Lambdin paced the team in the first relay. On her senior day, she tied her personal career best in the event by firing a 594. It's the fourth time she's shot that total in her career, most recently as a junior against Jacksonville State on Oct. 6, 2023. De Jesus scored a 593, her eighth straight air rifle performance over 590 points.

Gogniat rode the momentum from the Patriot Rifle Conference Tournament, where she fired the fifth perfect 600 air rifle score in program history, into Sunday's match. She scored a 10 in her first 17 attempts, extending her streak in her past two appearances to 77 overall. That's the second-longest streak of 10's in air rifle for the Rebels this season, behind Horvath's 83 earlier this season.

Gogniat would be perfect from there. With haste, she put her next 41 shots within the 10. Her 599 tied for the top spot on the individual leaderboard in air rifle with TCU's Christina Hillinger. Gogniat totaled 56 center shots to Hillinger's 51, giving Gogniat the top spot. She was the second finisher in the field of the relay, clocking her near-perfect 599 in under 30 minutes.

Horvath showed her veteran status but one-upping Gogniat, shooting 24 consecutive bullseyes to start her performance. She would finish as the second-highest Rebel scorer in the event for the day, totaling a 596. She's reached at least 595 in seven air rifle appearances this season.

Dinh followed Gogniat as the second Rebel to finish, totaling a 594. Her anchor role put Ole Miss on the podium of top scoring air rifle performances.

Katelyn Foust and Katie Tedeschi each put forth solid performances in their final rifle matches in Oxford. Foust and Tedeschi fired 586 and 584, respectively, in air rifle.

Emma Pereira fired the fifth-best smallbore score of the match, prior to the first relay. It's her third time this season reaching 588-plus scores.

Ole Miss will take the week to prepare for next week's NCAA Qualifier against Memphis. The match is slated for Feb. 22, with the first relay set to toe the line at 9 a.m. CT.
