Women’s Basketball’s Rebounding Prowess Leads to Win Over Wofford

12/13/2025 | Women's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. – Returning to the win column, No. 17/16 Ole Miss women’s basketball trounced Wofford, 86-52, Saturday afternoon at the SJB Pavilion in Oxford, Mississippi.

The Rebels (9-1, 0-0 SEC) were unstoppable off the glass, nearly doubling the Terriers (4-6, 0-0 SoCon) rebound total. This, in large part came from a three-headed monster in Cotie McMahon (11), Latasha Lattimore (11) and Sira Thienou (12), who each reached double-digit rebounds for the day. It’s the first time since Nov. 17, 2009, that three Rebels had more than 10 rebounds in a single game.

McMahon and Lattimore were also Ole Miss’ top scorers for the day, contributing 24 and 18 points, respectively. McMahon secured her third consecutive game of at least 20 points, becoming the first Rebel since all-timer Marquesha Davis did so in the 2023-24 season. McMahon’s 11 rebounds made it three double-doubles for the season and 13th of her career. Her double-digit point streak to begin 2025-26 remains intact, continuing to match Shandricka Sessom’s start in 2015-16.

Lattimore’s season high in points and rebounds helped her reach her first double-double of the season and 14th of her career. Thienou had a career-high and team-leading 12 rebounds, 10 of which coming from the defensive end of the court. Her and Lattimore had the two best plus-minuses among all Rebels against the Terriers, helping Ole Miss score 26 and 30 while the pair was on the court, respectively.

Christeen Iwuala had another solid game, scoring 13 points and adding five rebounds. She surpassed the 600-mark in points for her overall career. Jayla Murray was the other Rebel to have at least five rebounds against the Terriers, contributing six to the Rebels tally.

Ole Miss controlled the pace for the entire first quarter. McMahon scored the first basket of the game quickly, signifying a change in Ole Miss’ record books. She surpassed Kennedy Todd-Williams for the 10th most points by a Rebel in their overall career. She continued to dominate, rattling off nine more points in the quarter as the Rebels built a commanding lead. As Ole Miss dominated, Wofford struggled to find offensive rhythm, making only three of its 14 shots in the quarter. A 3-pointer from Denim DeShields and two more layups from McMahon and Thienou gave the Rebels a 25-10 lead entering the second quarter.

The Rebels continued mounting pressure on the Terriers. Iwuala and Lattimore added two quick layups as Debreasha Powe nailed a three to improve their lead to nearly 20 points. Lattimore paced the Rebels in the second, scoring seven total points in the quarter. She also had the third instance of an individual Rebel hauling in six rebounds in a single quarter this season. Much of the remainder of the quarter saw both teams forcing and committing fouls. Despite that, the Rebels reached 40 points in the first half of a game for the fourth time this season.

McMahon opened Ole Miss’ scoring in the third by splashing a wide-open three, her first of the game. Lattimore complemented McMahon’s three with contact layups and strong rebounds throughout the quarter. Thienou and Lattimore both reached double-digit rebounds in the third to help Ole Miss up its lead to 30, capped by a layup from Jayla Murray. After exchanging a few buckets, the Rebels held a 65-36 lead going into the final 10 minutes.

The Rebels were looking for individual accolades with the final quarter underway. McMahon continued dominating the glass, adding five in the final quarter alone to become the third player with at least 10 rebounds. Murray had one of her best quarters of the season so far, adding three rebounds and four points. Much of the quarter saw the two teams alternating buckets, as the Rebels refused to give up too many points for a comeback. McMahon and Murray capped the game with a layup each, fashioning the final score of 86-52.

The Rebels are back in the Pavilion tomorrow afternoon for game two of the weekend’s doubleheader. Ole Miss will face South Carolina State with a 2 p.m. CT tipoff time, and will be streamed SECN+.
