OXFORD, Miss. – No. 6 Ole Miss rifle bested No. 13 Memphis, 4725-4698, on Sunday at the Ole Miss Rifle Range on Sunday, Jan. 26.
The Rebels (9-4, 1-2 PRC) outshot the Tigers in both events of the day en route to their seventh-straight victory in the series. Ole Miss maintained its dominance in smallbore by completely filling the top six individual marks of the day. On the air rifle side, three Rebels placed in the top five.
The top four smallbore scores came via Ole Miss counters, with each shooting at least 585 for the day. The scores by the counters and noncounters alike remained high in air rifle, with eight Rebels totaling at least 590 in the event. As such, there were four instances of career highs set against Memphis.
Audrey Gogniat and Lea Horvath guided the Rebels to victory on the day, finishing first in the air rifle and smallbore individual standings, respectively. Gogniat has now paced Ole Miss in the event three times in her first three collegiate showings. For Horvath, she's now led the Rebels in 10 scoring events this season, and for the third time in smallbore.
The freshman-senior duo placed first and second in the aggregate individual standings, respectively.
Jordan de Jesus had the best day of her collegiate career, firing an aggregate career-high 1182. It's her second time in as many meets setting a new career mark as she's shown steady development at the start of the spring campaign. She earned third in the individual aggregate score.
The match consisted of two relays, of which three counters from each school participated in the first, followed by the remaining two counters in the second. Gogniat, Horvath and M'Leah Lambdin represented Ole Miss in the early relay.
Horvath led the way for the Rebels in the first relay, pacing the team with a 588 finish. Her score led the entire field for the day, and marked her second-highest smallbore score of the year. Lambdin followed Horvath to finish second in the relay with a 587 finish, good enough for third overall.
Gogniat tabbed a 585 score in her first home meet as a Rebel. She earned a fourth-place finish on the individual event leaderboard.
As a unit, the first relay had one of the best group efforts in the event this season. Kayla Riewe and Susan Carter scored career highs in the event, tabbing 592 and 589, respectively. Riewe claimed the highest placement on the individual leaderboard in air rifle, finishing fifth in the relay and eighth overall in the event.
Gogniat led the team in the event for the third straight match, scoring a 598. Her score remains the standard for the freshman, who has scored at least 598 in each of her first three collegiate matches. She started her scoring barrage by scorching 44 straight bullseyes in the event.
Horvath accompanied Gogniat and Riewe in the top five of the first relay, tallying a 594 performance. She's reached the top five in the event for the sixth time this season, showcasing her premier consistency.
Katie Tedeschi came through with a season-high 592, her first mark of 590-plus this season. Not to be outdone, Lambdin came through with a 591, her fourth score of at least 590 in the event this season, and third in the last four meets.
The Rebels held a 17-point advantage with two counters, de Jesus and Gracie Dinh, still left to shoot.
De Jesus came out scorching hot in the second relay, firing a combined 399 smallbore score through the kneeling and prone positions. She fired Ole Miss' 11th perfect prone score of the season, and the first of her career. In the kneeling position, de Jesus' 199 tied the program-best score, something done now three times this season by the Rebels.
De Jesus finished the event with the second-highest score of the day with 587. Emma Pereira and Dinh matched the success of the shooters before them, firing 585 each to finish fifth and sixth in the event leaderboard, respectively.
With a 2347-2323 advantage in smallbore secured, the second relay shifted its focus to air rifle, where it comfortably distanced the gap between themselves and the Tigers.
De Jesus and Dinh put up numbers where it mattered, each scoring north of 590. De Jesus' 595 was good enough for the No. 4 spot on the individual leaderboard and pushed her career-best aggregate mark to 1182.
Katelyn Foust, in her third meet of the 2024-25 season, fired a career-best 592 in in front of the Ole Miss fanbase. Dinh assured that the lowest counter would stay above 590, finishing with a 591 mark and securing the Ole Miss victory.
Ole Miss has made its necessary preparations to prepare for its first ever appearance in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championship. The Rebels will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on the seven-team field of the PRC in search of its first outright conference title in program history. The tournament is set to take place Feb. 7-8, at The X Count.
