Rifle Concludes Alaska Trip with Three Record-Setting Marks

1/19/2025 | Rifle

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – No. 9 Ole Miss rifle concluded its monumental trip to Alaska by claiming a 4740 aggregate score to finish in the top spot over No. 13 Akron and No. 16 Army on Sunday in Fairbanks. Akron took second place with 4711 while Army finished with 4688.

The Rebels' (8-4, 1-2 PRC) final day of their historic weekend in the Last Frontier was highlighted by three record-setting numbers reached by Ole Miss. The Rebels 4740 aggregate score is the second-highest in program history, coming just four points shy of setting the new record mark.

To do that, Ole Miss set the program record for the highest team smallbore score with a 2362 outing. Another marvelous showcase from Audrey Gogniat backed Ole Miss' record-setting effort. One day removed from firing an 1193 aggregate and tying the school smallbore record, the Le Noirmont, Switzerland, native became the sole owner of the event record after firing a 595.

Gogniat is off to the best start by an Ole Miss freshman in program history. She put up an Ole Miss best 598 in air rifle to secure her second 1193 aggregate score in as many days, once again tying the second-highest single match score in program history.

Ole Miss placed four counters in the top five of individual scorers in both events, landing three in the top four of the aggregate. Head coach Rachel Martin's first freshman signing class catapulted the Rebels historic weekend, with Gogniat and Gracie Dinh taking the gold and silver medals, respectively, as Dinh fired a career-high 1185. No slouches in air rifle, each of the four counting starters recorded at least a 593 score.

The match consisted of two relays, of which three counters from each school participated in the first, followed by the remaining two counters in the second. Gogniat, Lea Horvath, Jordan de Jesus and M'Leah Lambdin represented Ole Miss in the early relay.

The four Rebel counters began the match on a scorching pace. The Ole Miss athletes each put up at least 394 points through the first two positions of smallbore, with Horvath firing the 10th perfect prone score for Ole Miss this season.

Horvath joined Gogniat as the two Rebels to accomplish that feat this weekend. Lambdin caught fire early by firing a 198 in the kneeling position, coming one 10 shy away from tying her own program record for most points in that position.

With Ole Miss history in sight, Gogniat locked into her final 20 shots in the standing position. She shot a match-high 199 score while standing to put her one point above the record. She surpassed Horvath and Kristen Derting as the sole proprietor of single match smallbore record.

De Jesus came through with the second-highest Rebel score of the day, putting up a 590 in a comeback outing for the freshman. Her finish served as a career-high and her first smallbore performance of at least 590.

Gogniat, de Jesus and Lambdin held the top three spots on the smallbore podium in the first relay. Gogniat held onto the top event score for the day, while de Jesus ended in second place and Lambdin in fifth.

The Rebel quartet gave Ole Miss a commanding lead in the event. Gogniat, Horvath and de Jesus put the Rebels in prime position entering the final relay, with each scoring at least 590 points. Gogniat's 598 finish gave her the second highest of the day, as she finished first or second in smallbore, air rifle and aggregate in both competitions of the weekend.

In the second relay, Dinh required at least a 488 score to tie the program record in smallbore. In response, she fired a 489 to propel the Rebel squad into the top spot. In air rifle, the freshman scored the team's second-highest score of the day with 596. She finished third in the event while claiming her first podium finish of the spring season.

The Rebels return to Oxford with momentum on their side as they prepare to face No. 10 Memphis on Sunday, Jan. 26. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. and will take place at the Ole Miss Rifle Range.
