Track & Field Returns to Nashville for Vanderbilt Invitational

1/16/2025 | Track and Field

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss track & field returns to Nashville this weekend for the Vanderbilt Invitational, which will run Jan. 17-18 and stream live on SECN+.

MEET NOTES
• Last weekend, the Rebels came away with six event titles and three current collegiate-leading marks courtesy of junior Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan, junior Arvesta Troupe and sophomore Akaoma Odeluga across a split weekend at Kentucky's Rod McCravy Invitational and Vanderbilt's Commodore Challenge.

• Odeluga set the current world lead in the women's shot put for 2025 on a one-foot overall career-best 18.37m/60-03.25. That distance ranks her third in Ole Miss history indoors, No. 20 in collegiate history, and makes her one of three 60-footers indoors in Rebel women's history alongside Olympian Raven Saunders (19.56m/64-02.25) and All-American Jalani Davis (18.61m/61-00.75).

• Odeluga also finished runner-up in the weight throw at a one-foot PR of 21.23m/69-8, currently good for No. 7 in Division I, No. 2 in the SEC and No. 7 in Ole Miss history. In two meets, Odeluga has already improved 10 feet in the weight throw from her freshman PR of 18.25m/59-10.50.

• Sophomore Mensi Stiff, a Second-Team All-American last season, opened 2025 last week with a solid performance in the shot put at 16.55m/54-03.75 -- good for No. 11 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC behind Odeluga.

• Fellow sophomore Skylar Soli owns a top-25 mark in the weight throw of her own, current ranking 22nd nationally and third in the SEC at her season-best 19.67m/64-06.50 from last week.

Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan increased his collegiate lead in the men's shot put at Kentucky, winning at a season-best 20.51m/67-03.50. That performance currently leads the United States overall, ranks No. 2 in the world for 2025 and stands as the furthest throw this early into the collegiate season (Jan. 11) in available records since at least 2008. His season-opening 20.30m/66-07.25 from Dec. 6 was also the furthest that early into the collegiate season in available records.

• Robinson-O'Hagan also won the weight throw at 22.47m/73-08.75, and he still ranks second in Division I at his season-opening 22.88m/75-00.75 from Dec. 6.

• Robinson-O'Hagan is a preseason watch list member for The Bowerman, collegiate track & field's version of the Heisman Trophy. A semifinalist last season, Robinson-O'Hagan is the first Ole Miss men's thrower to make a watch list and only the fourth in Rebel men's history overall alongside Olympians Ricky Robertson (2012), Isiah Young (2013) and Sam Kendricks (2014).

• Also ranked within the top-30 in the men's weight throw are junior Bryson Smith (13th, 21.16m/69-05.25), senior Costen Campion (17th, 20.51m/67-03.50), junior Mason Hickel (22nd, 20.25m/66-05.25) and senior Jake Dalton (26th, 19.99m/65-7). Hickel also owns the No. 34 mark nationally in the shot put at his career-best heave of 17.85m/58-06.75 last month, good for fifth in Ole Miss history indoors.

• Junior Arvesta Troupe won the high jump at Kentucky on an overall career-best 2.20m/7-02.50, which currently leads all collegiate high jumpers. That height by Troupe is the best by a Rebel men's jumper indoors since 2020, and it's tied for third all-time in Ole Miss history indoors. This season, Troupe's performance currently ranks tied for sixth worldwide and second in the United States for 2025.

• Senior Iangelo Atkinstall-Daley put together a season-best performance at Kentucky in the triple jump, finishing third at 15.49m/50-10. That distance currently ranks 12th in Division I and fifth in the SEC for 2025, and it falls within a foot of his indoor career-best 15.61m/51-02.75 from the 2024 SEC Championships.

• Ole Miss received a pair of excellent opening 800-meter performances in Birmingham last month from freshman Max Armstrong and sophomore Jonathan Stock. Armstrong won at 1:49.65, which not only puts him at No. 5 in the nation and No. 1 in the SEC this year, but it already ranks him as the 14th-best performer in Ole Miss history indoors. Stock, meanwhile, was the runner-up at an indoor PR of 1:51.79, which currently rests at No. 20 in the NCAA and No. 4 in the SEC.

• Senior Toby Gillen still owns a national top-20 time from his season debut in the 5K last month. Gillen ran 13:30.34, currently No. 18 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC, at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 7.

• Freshman Jordan Urrutia finished sixth in the men's 300-meter dash at Kentucky last weekend at a half-second PR of 33.71. In available records, it ranks as the fastest proper 300-meter time in Ole Miss history, joining the ranks of a converted 300-yard time by Olympian Tony Dees in 1984 (29.54).

• The Rebel men's pole vaulters currently own two national top-30 performances. Junior Logan Kelley's season-opening 5.20m/17-00.75 from Dec. 6 still ranks 22nd nationally and fifth in the SEC, while sophomore transfer John Kendricks had his best day as a Rebel at Kentucky last week, clearing 5.17m/16-11.50 to currently sit at No. 28 in Division I and No. 8 in the SEC. For Kendricks, that height also puts him 10th in Ole Miss history indoors.

• Ole Miss also owns three top-50 performances in the women's pole vault courtesy of senior Samara McConnell (34th, 4.00m/13-01.50), freshman Katie McFarland (34th, 4.00m/13-01.50) and freshman Lily Beattie (42nd, 3.95m/12-11.50). For the freshmen McFarland and Beattie, those performances already rank ninth and 11th, respectively, in Ole Miss history indoors.
