WEST POINT, N.Y. – Through the first day at GARC Championships, Ole Miss rifle landed in fourth place, shooting 2340 in smallbore. Emma Pereira dominated all day, taking part in the smallbore final and firing a new air rifle career-high all in the same day.

The first of three relays featured Martina Gratz firing a 575. Ole Miss (7-6, 2-4 GARC) brought out two more Rebels, Kristen Derting and Katie Tedeschi, in the next relay. Both ended their time in the event with a 581.

Three Rebels took the stage for the third and final relay of Day One. Horvath cruised to a 397 through kneeling and prone, helped by her second straight perfect prone score. Pereira also hit a perfect 200 in prone and carried the momentum into standing shots, shooting a 196. Horvath and Pereira finished the discipline with a 589. Since Pereira fired 34 center shots along with her total score, the sophomore took the last spot in the finals.

Earlier in the day, Pereira began the day in the first air rifle relay as a non-counter. The Virginia native tried a new strategy, leading to a personal best of 597 and later breaking her career-best for aggregate scoring with an 1186.

Half of the GARC Championships wrapped up following the smallbore finals. Pereira started strong in her first five kneeling, putting her in fourth place. However, she would drop to eighth and hold that position for the rest of the finals.

Ole Miss is continuing the fight for a conference title on Sunday, Feb. 25. The Rebels and the rest of the conference will shoot air rifle to determine the 2024 GARC Champions.
