Rifle Shows Out in NCAA Qualifier

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle fired their best spring score at the right time, winning the NCAA qualifier with Memphis, 4715-4709. The Rebels fired the program's eighth-best smallbore mark with 2352.
Ole Miss (7-6, 2-4 GARC) chose the right day to tie their fifth-best team score of the season. Regan Diamond led all Rebels, tying her personal-best aggregate score of 1182 for second place overall. Lea Horvath and Kristen Derting also finished in the top-five. Horvath notched an 1180 in third place, and Derting put in fifth place by shooting an 1177. Five other Rebels landed in the aggregate top-10, including Gretchen Schleinkofer's career-high 1173 in the eighth spot.
Led by Diamond and Horvath, the Rebels fired a top-10 program smallbore score of 2352 to push out to an 18-point lead. The first- and fourth-year shooters scorched 590, helped by two perfect prone scores. It was the first time in her career that Diamond eclipsed the 590 mark. Emma Pereira and Derting rounded out the top-five with scores of 587 and 585, respectively. Pereira was the third Rebel to fire a 200 in prone shots. Katie Tedeschi tied her career smallbore score she set at N.C. State with a 584.
Memphis (7-7, 2-4 GARC) fought back in air rifle but it would fall short of a comeback. The Rebels held of the Tigers, shooting a 2363. Diamond and Derting each shot 592 to tie for fourth place. Four other Rebels earned a spot in the top-10 of air rifle and six in the top-15. Schleinkofer crushed through her 60 for a career-best 591 to place in seventh in air rifle.
Ole Miss is back on the road to West Point, N.Y., for the GARC Championships hosted by the Army. The championships will take place on February 24 and 25.
