Rifle Takes Third in Weekend Tournament

10/19/2024 | Rifle

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Despite some strong performances, No. 4 Ole Miss rifle came in third against Navy and Nebraska on Saturday at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.

Ole Miss (2-2, 0-1 PRC) scored 4694 points, while Nebraska came away with the highest score of 4705 and Navy took second with 4701.

Gracie Dinh and Lea Horvath once again led the way for the Rebels, picking up the top two spots in air rifle and each landed on the podium in the aggregate scoring.

The match began in smallbore.

Horvath led the squad in smallbore for the second match in a row, scoring a 586. A trio of freshmen followed Horvath with high scores each. Dinh scored the second-most for the Rebels with 584, while Susan Carter earned a 583 to round out Ole Miss' top three. Jordan de Jesus placed 11th in scoring, tallying 581 as the Rebels' third-highest counter.

In air rifle, Horvath picked up where she left off from last week's performance. Between two matches, Horvath scored 83-straight bullseye. After firing a 600 against Murray State last weekend, Horvath opened the event with 23 10s in a row. She finished the event with a 596 and a tie for second overall.

It was Dinh who took the top spot for the first time in air rifle as a collegiate athlete. Dinh rode Horvath's momentum into air rifle in relay two, where she secured a career-best 597. She had 47 centered-shots and finished her last two rounds with 20-straight 10's.

Dinh became the first Ole Miss freshman to record at least 597 in air rifle since Horvath did so eight times in 2020-21.

M'Leah Lambdin was the third counter for the Rebels, earning a 589, and Claudia Muzik rounded out Ole Miss' air rifle score with a 585.

Horvath put up 1182 combined points to also led the team in the aggregate score. It's the third time this season she's done so, and was good enough to earn silver among all competitors.

The Rebels return to Oxford for their home opener next weekend, to face Jacksonville State on Oct. 26 at 9 a.m.
