Rifle Concludes Fall Season Hosting Georgia Southern

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle wraps up their fall slate with a home match against Georgia Southern on Saturday, November 11. The Rebels face their second top-five team of the season.
On the Line
The Rebels are coming off their third straight top-four placement at the NCAA Championships. On their way to fourth place, the team also finished second in smallbore for the first time in program history. Lea Horvath and Emma Pereira guided Ole Miss with their fifth and seventh-place finishes in smallbore. Ole Miss went 9-2 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
It was a record-breaking year for the Rebels as a team and for individuals. The team posted a program-high match score of 4743 against Memphis. The Rebels were runner-ups at the GARC Championships for the program's highest placement ever. Individually, Horvath became the first woman in NCAA history to fire a perfect 600 in air rifle three times in a career. The senior also tied her own school record in smallbore of 594 and broke her match aggregate score of 1194.

Georgia Southern
The Eagles, led by Soren Butler in his 2nd season, are ranked their highest in program history and fourth in the nation by the CRCA. In his first season, he led Georgia Southern to a Southern Conference aggregate and smallbore titles. The team sits at 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
The SoCon Smallbore and Air Rifle Athlete of the Year, Addy Burrow, leads the team in smallbore and aggregate match average, coming off an NCAA tournament appearance. The All-American is helped by Ella Goldfaden, who leads the team in air rifle with an average of 595.8. Goldfaden's air rifle average is ninth best in the country.
Series History
Ole Miss and Georgia Southern have competed against each other only once all-time. The Rebels took the match 4626-4453 at home in 2015.
Hays-ing through the Competition
The sophomore countered in smallbore and, for the first time this season, air rifle against Akron. She took advantage of the opportunity by firing her best scores ever. In smallbore, Hays hit a career and match best 592, helped by a perfect prone score. Hays took that momentum into air rifle, hitting 10s in her first 10 shots. The Maplewood, Minn. native went on to score a personal record 594. She finished with a career-high 1186 aggregate score and first place overall.
National Signing Day
Coach Rachel Martin announced the signing of four new shooters to the 2024-25 squad. One of the most decorated recruiting classes the program has signed, the Rebels' 2023 National Signing Day class features a National Junior Air Rifle Championship, four Junior Olympians, three Junior Olympic championships for their state, three state championships, two NJROTC national championships, and five other championships.
Flourishing Freshmen
All three Rebel freshmen broke personal records against No. 1 West Virginia. Schleinkofer and Diamond surpassed career bests in all three disciplines. Olivia Schammel smashed her previous air rifle score by 18 points for a 586.
Diamond in the Rough
The freshman started her first-ever collegiate match against Jacksonville State as a smallbore counter. She fired a 577, which tied for the seventh-best smallbore performance. While Diamond was not a counter for air rifle, she still put up a whopping 594, securing fifth place in the discipline. It marks a freshman's highest air rifle score in their first match since Horvath in 2020.
The Keenesburg, Colorado, native's stellar outing earned her a counter spot in smallbore and air rifle the next day in a win over Murray State. Diamond delivered an 1180 aggregate score, which tied for second place overall. She shot a personal best 587 in smallbore and a 593 in air rifle. On Saturday, she went on to top her 594 air rifle score with a 595 against No. 1 West Virginia.
CRCA Rankings
After another solid weekend, shooting 4729 against Akron and 4707 against Kentucky, Ole Miss moved back to No. 3 in the latest CRCA Rankings.
