2/15/2015 | Rifle
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - One day after shooting a career-best in air rifle, Ole Miss freshman Jessica Haig (Constableville, N.Y.) shot a personal best 573 in smallbore to highlight the Rebels against Jacksonville State Sunday at the Gamecock Rifle Range, but the Gamecocks took the match 4678-4593.
Haig's high school dropped smallbore during her freshman year, so she did not have a lot of experience prior to competing in it this year for the Rebels.
Sophomore Alison Weisz fired a 574 in smallbore to lead the Rebels, who finished with a 2280 total. Jacksonville State had a 582 from Cole Tucker and a 580 from Samantha Ballard to post a 2317.
Weisz shot 584 in air rifle to lead the Rebels, Haig posted a 582 and Nicolle Thiry had a 580 for a 2313 total.
Jacksonville State had three counters in the 90s, including 592 from Tucker and Brandon Muske, as the Gamecocks finished with a 2361.
"Jessica keeps pushing her limits and that's what we need for the whole team," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "We are looking forward to the challenge of NCAA Qualifiers next week."
The Rebels will be back in action next weekend at the NCAA Qualifier in Lexington, Ky.
