Haig Posts Career-High in Air Rifle

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss freshman Jessica Haig (Constableville, N.Y.) shot a career-high 591 in air rifle to highlight the Rebels against Navy Saturday at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.

Haig had shot a 596 in practice the day before, so everyone knew it was possible. She shot a perfect 100 on her last string to post the top score, which is also the best score in air rifle of the season by a Rebel.

Navy shot a 2276 in smallbore to edge the Rebels (2267) by nine. They were paced by Zach Gibson's 573. Rebel sophomore Alison Weisz led Ole Miss with a 576.

In air rifle, everyone of Navy's counters shot in the 580s to top the Rebels 2334-2325.

"We are so proud of Jessica with her personal best in air," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "Alison continues to be consistent. We knew this was going to be a rebuilding year, but it's hard to finish the conference season with another loss. The team works hard, it just doesn't show up when we need it."

The Rebels have a quick turnaround, as they travel to face No. 6 Jacksonville State Sunday at 9 a.m., at the Gamecock Rifle Range.
