Rebels Knock Off Christian Brothers in Exhibition

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team jumped out to a 13-point lead and held Christian Brothers to just five points through the first six minutes of the first quarter as they cruised to a 100-53exhibition win at the Tad Smith Coliseum on Friday night.
Junior captain Bretta Hart (Poplarville, Miss.) had her best game as a Rebel with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds while sophomore A'Queen Hayes (Horn Lake, Miss.) also added 18 points and eight rebounds, while setting a career high with eight assists.
Ole Miss led throughout the contest and held it's largest lead of the game - 37 points - at the 9:09 mark of the third quarter courtesy of 28 Christian Brother's turnovers which led to 35 points for the Rebels. Ole Miss also made the most of their second chances scoring 19 points on second opportunities.
The Ole Miss bench helped throughout the contest as the Ole Miss reserves outscored Christian Brothers, 40-19. For the game, Ole Miss shot 45 percent and had just 13 turnovers for the contest but shot just eight percent from long range and just 57 percent from the stripe.
On the glass, Ole Miss outrebounded the Lady Bucs, 51-38 and cleaned the offensive glass with 26 offensive rebounds on the night compared to just eight for Christian Brothers.

On the win...
"We always celebrate wins. We are building a program -- a program that is further along that maybe what we thought we would be at this point.
On the effort...
"I was really happy with our effort, but we have some things we have to clean up. One thing we're trying to do is be the fastest team in the country on both offense and defense and playing at a high rate of speed."
On the defense and speed...
"I felt really good about it. Someone said it looks like we have a track team on the basketball court and that's what we're going for. We want to be athletic, and a team that forces you to play out of your comfort zone and we have the depth to do that."
Rebel Sidelines
-Tonight's game marked the third consecutive year Ole Miss and Christian Brothers have met in exhibition action, with Ole Miss winning all three contests.
-Ole Miss assistant coach Todd Schaefer was the head coach at Christian Brothers from 1999-2004 and his niece Ashley is a redshirt senior for the Lady Buccaneers. Additionally, Schaefer's wife Lisa was an All-American at Christian Brothers.
-Each of Ole Miss' freshmen saw action in tonight's exhibition game marking their first time donning the Cardinal and Navy this season.
-Each of Ole Miss' players that was available to play saw time on the floor tonight and recorded points, including each of Ole Miss' freshmen.
-A'Queen Hayes tied her career high with six assists in tonight's contest. She last set the mark in the 2015 SEC Tournament against Arkansas.
-Kelsey Briggs set a career high in rebounds with seven boards.
-For the second consecutive exhibition game, Ole Miss topped the century mark with exactly 100 points.
