Ole Miss vs Baylor
December 7, 2014
HEAD COACH Matt Insell
On what the team can learn from today's loss…
"We have toughness issues right now. We got every shot we wanted in the first half, we got wide-open looks. We did not make the shots. There are a lot of things that had bad results. Our toughness as a basketball team, in terms of making plays, getting stops and when a team comes at you we need to improve. When we get the least bit tired we shut down. That is where we have to grow as a team when we are playing good teams. That comes with toughness. We have to get that. We have to go back to work. We have a week off for exams but we need to really get after it and get better individually. By doing this we can become a better basketball team as we continue to move forward."
On what the team can specifically fix…
"Our mentality, our demeanor. When you get a little tired, you have to keep pushing through. It really is not anything that we need to work on physically. It is a demeanor that needs to be present. We talked to them about that every day in practice. You see it everyday in practice. When you play a good team you get exposed. Baylor is a top 10 team in the country. We are close, but we are not ready for that type of game. We are still three or four weeks from being about to compete with them. You get exposed when you play a team like Baylor and you do not have toughness and they do. Nina Davis scores 43, and 36 of those resulted in her being able to go right. We worked for days trying to be able to make her go left. We cannot have those kinds of lapses. We need to push forward and not let those lapses hit us. We will go back to work and continue to get better. This was not a good week for our basketball team. We need to get better. We all need to go look out ourselves in the mirror, coaches and players. I am going to go back and fix some things. We are going to change up some rotations. We are going to change up how we are playing."
On the benefit of a week off…
"It is a huge benefit. You can get your legs back under you and recover. We can just go to practice and not have to worry about playing another team. We can get ourselves better. We went to Reno and played really well. Since coming back we have not played well at all. We need to figure out why this is happening. We are going to look at this more than just X's and O's. This is important because that is the kind of stuff that can hurt you. We just need to figure all of that out."
