Rifle Concludes Fall Season in New York

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The No. 16 ranked Ole Miss Rifle team traveled to West Point, New York this past weekend for a pair of matches against No. 12 ranked Army and No. 1 West Virginia.
Against Army, the Rebels finished just 16 points behind the Cadets in air rifle, falling 2337 to 2321. However, Army emerged with the victory on the heels of smallbore, to defeat the Rebels 4615-4561.
On Saturday, the Rebels faced top-ranked West Virginia, losing the match 4699-4568.
Sophomore Alison Weisz was the top scorer for the Rebels in both matches, with a 593 in air rifle against West Virginia and 584 against Army. The 593 is one off her career-high of 594 set last year. Fellow sophomore Nicolle Thiry finished with a career high of 583 in air rifle against Army.
"I'm happy with where we are in air rifle," head coach Valerie Boothe said. "We have to improve in smallbore, though. We're going to hit the range and get better, just like we always do."
The fall season is over for the team, but Thiry and Weisz will be competing at the Winter Air Gun Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado from Dec. 4-7.
Ole Miss will also host the State Junior Olympic Championships on Dec. 13, featuring most of the Rebel team.
The Rebels will kick off the spring season Jan. 17, hosting Kentucky at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
