Rifle Falls To No. 2 Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The No. 14 ranked Ole Miss rifle team went up against their second top five opponent in a week, facing No. 2 Kentucky on the road this weekend. The Rebels shot a season best 4621, but it was not enough, as the Wildcats posted a score of 4688.

The two teams began the match with smallbore. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead after kneeling and never looked back, besting Ole Miss in prone 790-784 and in standing 761-742 to hold a 2322-2285 advantage heading into air rifle.

Senior Abbey Stanec led Ole Miss in smallbore with a 574. Freshman Alison Weisz turned in a 573.

Wildcat senior Emily Holsopple led the way in smallbore for Kentucky, delivering a 587 to open the day.

The Rebels shot a season best 2336 in air rifle to Kentucky's 2366. The Wildcats were paced by three counters over 590. Senior Melissa Quartarone delivered a 586 to lead Ole Miss in air, and Alivia Yeager, who hails from Louisville, Ky., posted a season best 584.

The Rebels are off this coming weekend before heading to Morgantown, W.V. Nov. 2 and 3 for matches against fifth-ranked West Virginia and 17th-ranked Akron.
