CHARLESTON, SC. - Ole Miss was able to overcome adversity Saturday during its match against No. 19 NC State, as the No. 6 Rebels dropped smallbore to the Wolfpack 2292-2290, but came back to win the match 4640-4596.
"We are still working the bugs out of smallbore," Rebels head coach Valerie Boothe said. "But our air (score) was near a record pace. I'm very pleased about that."
It was Ole Miss' second victory over GARC foe NC State as the Rebels knocked off the Wolfpack 4638-4510 just thirteen days ago.
Boothe mentioned earlier last week that NC State shoots at The Citadel's range on a fairly regular basis and that she was concerned how her team would adjust to being on the road, especially since this was Ole Miss' first visit to The Citadel this season.
Despite dropping the smallbore, Ole Miss was able to put together great scores in the air.
"After the smallbore I told the team to focus on the air, rather than to look at the past," Boothe said.
After shooting a 592 in the air during the teams first meeting, senior Keely Stankey shot another match-high air score of 591 to lead the Rebels Saturday. Sophomore Abbey Stanec also produced an impressive 587 air score, while sophomore Melissa Quartarone led Ole Miss in smallbore shooting a 580.
The Rebels face The Citadel and No. 14 Air Force tomorrow in Charleston.
