Rebels Fall To No. 15 Lady Bulldogs

OXFORD, Miss. - In a tale of two halves Sunday afternoon, No. 15 Georgia came out on top, beating the Ole Miss women's basketball team, 61-47.
With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 12-8 overall (2-5 SEC) while Georgia improved to 16-4 (5-2 SEC).
The Lady Bulldogs used a huge 26-0 run in the first half to build a big lead before the Rebels took control in the second half, outscoring Georgia 32-18.
Tia Faleru recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Valencia McFarland added 13 points.
With Ole Miss' first field goal of the game came at the 18:07 mark of the first half on a shot from McFarland to bring the score to 4-2 with Georgia leading.
From that point, Ole Miss went 1-17 from the floor until Nikki Byrd hit a shot with 6:32 from the floor to bring the score to 30-4.
At the half, Ole Miss trailed 43-15. The 15 points is a tie for tenth in the Rebel record book for fewest points scored in a half. Byrd led Ole Miss at the half with eight points and three boards. The Rebels shot 25.9 percent (7-27) from the floor while the Lady Bulldogs shot 48.7 percent (19-39).
In the second half, Ole Miss cut the lead to 56-38 with 7:38 to play on a three from McFarland as the Rebels outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 32-18 in the second half.
For the game, Ole Miss shot 29.8 percent (17-57) from the floor while Georgia shot 35.6 percent (26-39).
Ole Miss will play at South Carolina Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on FSN.
