Ole Miss Falls At No. 9 Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Twice midway through the second half, the Ole Miss women's basketball team cut No. 9 Miami's lead to under five points, but the Hurricanes used a late run to pull away, taking a 76-48 win over the Rebels Saturday night.
With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 6-2 while No. 9 Miami improved to 8-1 and won its 29 consecutive game at home. The Rebels held the Hurricanes to below their season scoring average of 86.2 points per game.
Nikki Byrd led Ole Miss with 10 points and Whitney Hameth added nine. For the game, Ole Miss shot 35.1 percent (20-57) from the floor.
Maggie McFerrin opened the game with a three for the Rebels but Ole Miss went 0-9 from the floor after that until Hameth hit a three for Ole Miss to cut the Hurricanes' lead to 11-6 with 12:07 to play in the half.
Miami used a 12-4 run midway through the first half to go ahead 30-16 with 4:15 left to play. At the half, the Hurricanes led the Rebels, 34-22. Valencia McFarland led Ole Miss at the half with six points while Pa'Sonna Hope had six rebounds.
In the second half a three from Hameth pulled the Rebels to within five, 35-30, with 16:23 left in the game.
The Rebels cut the Hurricanes' lead to four, 44-40, on a put back from Byrd before Miami hit a pair of threes to extend its lead to 50-42 with 9:06 left. The Hurricanes used a 13-4 run with 5:40 remaining in the game to push its lead to 60-44.
Ole Miss will host Central Michigan on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
