Laws, Hope Lead Women's Hoops In Exhibition Victory

OXFORD, Miss. - Junior LaTosha Laws and freshman Pa'Sonna Hope helped the Ole Miss women's basketball team to an 86-36 exhibition game win over the University of West Georgia Thursday night.
The Rebels opened the game on a 17-2 run with 12:32 left in the first half with Hope scoring eight points during the run.
Freshman Shae Nelson hit a three with 4:30 left in the first half to put Ole Miss up 37-9. The Rebels went into the half leading, 45-15.
Ole Miss shot 51.4 percent (18-for-35) from the floor in the first half while the University of Georgia shot 20.l percent (6-of-29).
In the second half, Laws hit a three to extend Ole Miss' lead to 60-21 with 12:13 left to play. Junior Nikki Byrd scored on back-to-back possessions for the Rebels to put Ole Miss on top, 67-27, with 9:28 left in the game.
"I am happy we have had a game opportunity to gauge where we are at," head coach Renee Ladner said. "I think my team was ready for a game. At times we played well tonight but we have a lot of work ahead of us."
Laws finished the game with 19 points while Hope recorded a double-double and finished with 20 points on eight of nine shooting from the floor and 10 boards.
Byrd ended the game with 12 points while Nelson added 11. Freshman Valencia McFarland recorded eight points and nine assists.
The Rebels shot 51.6 percent from the floor (33-of-64) while the Wolves shot 21.2 percent (11-of-52).
Ole Miss will host the Inn at Ole Miss Classic Nov. 12-13. The Rebels will host Jackson State on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. followed by SEMO and Sam Houston State at 1 p.m. The consolation game will be played on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. followed by the championship game at 3 p.m.
