Ole Miss Rifle Drops Match To Murray State

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team dropped a tight contest to Murray State over the weekend, falling 4620-4549 to the Racers in Murray, Ky.
The Rebels were led in the air rifle by Keely Stankey and Colleen Tillson, who both posted a mark of 585. Junior team captain Meredith Holman finished close behind both players with a score of 584. Emma Holman rounded out the Rebel air line with a mark of 558. Kim Coffey (586) and Misty White also shot, but did not factor into the team score. Murray State, led by an air mark of 588 from Emily Quiner, knocked off the Rebels 2338-2312.
Stankey also paced the Rebels in the smallbore firing a total of 573, while Meredith Holman was close behind with a mark of 571. Tillson and Coffey rounded out the Rebel smallbore scoring with mark of 551 and 542, respectively. Amanda Green (547) and Emma Holman (546) also competed in the smallbore, but did not count in the Rebel scoring. Murray edged the Rebels 2282-2237 in the smallbore, led by a mark of 580 from Quiner.
"We shot well in places, but we weren't able to put together a compete effort," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "This showed us some areas we need to work on before next week's match."
Next up, the Rebels will travel to Lexington, Ky. on Saturday Jan. 23 to face the Kentucky Wildcats.
