Ole Miss Rifle Drops A Pair Of Matches

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team dropped a pair of tight matches to Great American Rifle Conference foes Army and Nebraska over the weekend at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
The Rebels dropped the first match of the weekend by a team aggregate score of 4583-4561 to Army on Saturday. Junior Meredith Holman led the way for Ole Miss firing an air rifle score of 585. Junior Colleen Tillson turned in an air score of 581, while sophomore Keely Stankey shot a mark of 580 for the Rebels. Freshman Emma Holman finished out the Ole Miss line with a mark of 565. Sophomore Amanda Green (550) and Misty White (531) also competed for the Rebels.
Tillson led the Rebels in the smallbore with a mark of 569 followed closely behind by Meredith Holman's score of 568. Stankey (566) and Emma Holman (547) closed out the Ole Miss smallbore scoring. The Rebels tied the Black Knights at 2311 in the team air, but fell in the smallbore scoring 2272-2250.
On Sunday, the Rebels dropped another close contest falling 4608-4583 to Nebraska. The team score of 4583 tied a season high for the Rebels. Tillson paced Ole Miss firing team-high score of 584 in the air rifle and 574 in the smallbore. Meredith Holman finished close behind Tillson posting an air score of 582 and a smallbore mark of 568. Stankey fired scores of 576 in the air and 568 in the smallbore, while Emma Holman closed out the Ole Miss line with marks of 575 in the air and 555 in the smallbore.
"I thought we had great effort, we just lost a couple of tight matches," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "Losing the tie breaker in the air to Army was just a heartbreaker. We have to regroup and prepare to face UTEP this weekend."
Ole Miss will host UTEP on Nov. 7 at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford.
