OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 4 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team shutout Samford 6-0, Tuesday in a match that had to be moved indoors to the Women=s Sports Complex due to rain. The Rebels improve to 7-2, while Samford drops to 4-2 on the season.

The match began outside with singles play, but quickly went inside due to the weather. Rebel Martin Sjoqvist downed Arturo Carrasco 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 2 position and James Shortall cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Bernie Staub at the top spot to give Ole Miss a 2-0 lead. Vikrant Chadha made it 3-0 with his straight set win (6-4, 6-3) against Samford's Robert Sproul at No. 3 singles.

Freshman Martin Selin clinched the win for the Rebels by dominating Sukhdeep Saluja 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Kristofer Stahlberg remained perfect on the season with a 6-4, 6-4 win over David Misner at No. 6 singles and Anders Stenman held off Brad Vermuelen 7-6(4), 6-4 at No. 4 singles for the sweep. The two teams did not play doubles.

"This was a good win for us," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Our guys are going to have to be ready to step it up another level as we head into conference play. We have a young team and some of our players don't know what it=s like to play on the road in the SEC. They'll find out soon enough with our upcoming schedule." Ole Miss begins its quest for a third SEC Championship this Saturday at Arkansas. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start. The Rebels open the conference schedule with four matches on the road including stops at Auburn, Alabama and LSU.
